Raven Engineering Group is seeking an experienced structural engineer to lead the structural engineering function within the business.

The role will support the design, review, checking, and certification of modular steel water storage tanks and associated structures across Australia.

This position suits a practical engineer who can work across design, fabrication, construction support, standardisation, and technical problem solving.

Key responsibilities

- Lead the structural engineering function within Raven Engineering Group.
- Design modular steel water storage tanks and associated structures.
- Design and review roofs, platforms, stair systems, ladders, support steel, and connection details.
- Design or coordinate footing, slab, and ground preparation requirements, including coordination with geotechnical engineers and other professions where required.
- Review fabrication drawings before manufacture to ensure dimensions, materials, connections, and details match the certified design and project requirements.
- Provide engineering support during fabrication, delivery, and construction.
- Respond to technical queries from clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Work directly with independent verifiers, certifiers, and external engineers where required.
- Develop standard designs, engineering procedures, checking templates, and internal calculation libraries.
- Assist with product development and continuous improvement of Raven's tank systems.
- Support the business in managing design risk, technical compliance, buildability, and engineering records.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering,



or civil and structural engineering.
- Minimum 8 years Australian structural engineering experience.
- Current RPEQ registration, or ability to obtain one.
- CPEng and NER registration preferred.
- NSW Qualified Engineer registration in structural engineering preferred where required by project location, scope, or regulatory requirements.
- Ability to obtain or maintain any state based engineering registration required for Raven projects.
- Strong working knowledge of Australian Standards, including AS/NZS 1170, AS 4100, AS/NZS 4600, AS 3600, AS 1657, AS2304, AS4312 and relevant NCC requirements.
- Ability to prepare clear engineering calculations, design notes, compliance letters, and technical responses.
- Ability to review drawings and identify design, fabrication, procurement, and construction issues.
- Experience using structural analysis and design software for steel structures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a remote team.
- Practical engineering mindset with strong attention to detail.

Highly Preferred

- Experience in water infrastructure.
- Experience with tanks, reservoirs, or industrial structures.
- Experience with reinforced concrete footing and slab design.
- Experience with finite element analysis.
- Experience reviewing fabrication drawings for manufacture.
- Experience working with independent verifiers, certifiers, or third party reviewers.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers or supporting internal technical teams.
- Experience developing standardised design tools, calculation templates, or internal engineering procedures.
