Job Description
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the National Fleet Manager is responsible for the leadership, governance and performance of SCT's national fleet portfolio. The role partners closely with operational senior leaders across the business to ensure fleet assets are managed safely, efficiently and cost-effectively, while supporting operational performance and long-term business objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing the National direction for SCT's national fleet portfolio.
- Providing oversight and governance of fleet operations, ensuring consistent standards, compliance and performance across all locations.
- Leading fleet procurement, asset lifecycle management and supplier partnerships to maximise value and operational effectiveness.
- Partnering with senior operational leaders to drive accountability for fleet utilisation, maintenance, compliance and risk management.
- Ensuring the business meets all fleet-related regulatory, accreditation and insurance requirements.
- Identifying opportunities to improve safety, reliability, efficiency and cost performance across the fleet portfolio.
- Providing expert advice and strategic support to senior leaders on fleet-related matters.
Desired Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
Essential
- Demonstrated experience managing large, diverse fleet portfolios across multiple locations.
- Strong fleet procurement, maintenance and asset lifecycle management experience within a transport, logistics, mining, construction or similar operational environment.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, maintenance providers and insurers.
- Experience negotiating high-value contracts and delivering commercial outcomes.
- Strong understanding of heavy vehicle compliance, fleet accreditation, registration and insurance requirements.
- Experience providing strategic oversight and governance of fleet operations, ensuring consistent standards and practices are maintained across a geographically dispersed network.
- Ability to partner with operational leaders to drive accountability for fleet performance, maintenance compliance and asset utilisation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends, manage risk and implement practical solutions.
- Experience using SAP or similar fleet management and asset maintenance systems.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation.
- A proactive, hands-on approach and a commitment to safety, continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Desirable
- Experience working within rail, transport, logistics or heavy vehicle operations.
- Knowledge of Mass & Maintenance Accreditation and Chain of Responsibility obligations.
- Experience leading fleet transformation, procurement or optimisation projects.
