About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Business Development/Metal Buyer to join our team on a full‑time basis at our Sumner, QLD location. This is a strategic position that combines sales development with procurement expertise, playing a vital role in driving revenue growth and securing quality metal supply chains.

You will be instrumental in identifying new business opportunities, building and maintaining key client relationships, and managing metal purchasing operations to support our business objectives.

In addition to external business development and procurement activities, this role will also require occasional hands‑on involvement in our front yard operations. This includes assisting with the direct purchase of scrap metal from customers, accurately weighing and grading materials, preparing purchase documentation, and providing professional customer service to ensure an efficient buying experience. This operational component helps maintain a strong understanding of market conditions, material quality, and day‑to‑day purchasing processes.

Key Responsibilities

- Identify and develop new business opportunities within the metals and recycling sector, including prospecting, lead generation, and client acquisition across manufacturing, demolition, industrial and government sectors
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients, understanding their needs and providing tailored solutions
- Source, negotiate,



and purchase ferrous and non-ferrous metals at competitive market rates
- Achieve purchase targets and KPIs whilst maintaining profitability through sound purchasing decisions
- Liaise with operational teams to ensure timely delivery and quality of metal supplied
- Maintain accurate records of transactions, communications for CRM

What We’re Looking For

- Proven experience in business development, sales, or new business acquisition, preferably within the recycling, metals, or related industries
- Demonstrated experience in metal buying, procurement, or supplier relationship management
- Strong understanding of metal markets, pricing mechanisms, and commodity trading
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders
- Track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets and KPIs
- Proficiency in market analysis and strategic planning
- Robust commercial awareness and ability to identify profitable opportunities
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency with CRM systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Valid driving licence and willingness to travel as required. Forklift licence preferable but not required.
- A professional approach to business conduct and customer service

Preferred Experience

- Previous experience in the recycling, scrap metals, or waste management industry
- Knowledge of industry certifications and compliance standards
- Experience with logistics and supply chain management
- Familiarity with metal grading and quality assessment
