The Role
We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller / Accounts Manager to join our growing team. You will play a crucial role in managing the financial operations of Maclarens Lawyers and three associated entities, working in a supportive team environment that serves all areas of our busy law practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage accounting functions for Maclarens Lawyers (including three associated entities)
- Prepare and lodge GST returns and financial statements in compliance with tax requirements
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports for partner and management review
- Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable functions
- Manage trust accounting and controlled monies in accordance with legal and professional standards
- Coordinate and support financial processes across all practice areas
- Liaise with external accountants and tax advisors as needed
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
About you to succeed in this role you bring:
- Demonstrate accounting or finance experience, preferably within a legal practice or professional services environment
- Relevant accounting qualifications (CA, CPA or equivalent) or substantial industry experience
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- High levels of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Self-initiative: ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively
- Problem-solving: capacity to identify issues and develop practical solutions
- Collaborative approach: works effectively within a team supporting diverse practice areas
- Strong knowledge of trust accounting and controlled monies requirements
- Proficiency with accounting software and modern office applications
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
