Support Worker for a Youth Client– Sunshine Coast
In-Home Support | Complex Mental Health | Trauma-Informed Practice
We are seeking dedicated, very confident, and extremely resilient Youth Support Staff with proven experience in supporting individuals with complex mental health needs. This role requires the ability to work with a female client who may present with extreme behaviours, Complex PTSD (CPTSD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).
Applicants must have strong mental health knowledge, be calm under pressure, and demonstrate confidence in managing both verbal and physical escalations. Resilience (both mental and physical), professionalism, and the ability to maintain skilled boundaries and standards are essential to providing safe and effective support.
Setting:
- Primarily in-home support and community access
- Supporting the participant within their family dynamics, you will not only be supporting the young person, but also working alongside their family
- Applicants must be willing to attend shift on theSunshine Coast, between Caloundra and Nambour as shift locations can occasionally change. The client uses a car owned by The Energy so you will not be using your own car for this.
Requirements:
- NDIS Worker Screening Check (Yellow Card)
- Working with Children (Blue Card)
- National Police Check
- First Aid & CPR
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module
- Certificates in Assisting with Medication, Infection Protection Control and Manual Handling
- Reliable vehicle with business cover also listed on insurance policy (if wanting to work with our other clients)
- Strong understanding of complex behaviours, addiction, and mental health
- Proven experience with escalations and therapeutic models of care
- Confidence in supporting clients and families in dynamic, sometimes high-pressure environments
Highly Desired:
- Experience in a youth residential care setting
- Cert III in Individual Support or adjacent qualifications (students currently enrolled in Social Work, Psychology, OT or similar are strongly encouraged to apply)
- TCI or MABO training
- Strong mental health background and resilience under pressure
- Confidence in maintaining professional boundaries and supporting emotional regulation
- Experience with ASD and trauma-informed care
Roster:
- Recurring weekly roster designed to support consistency and prevent staff burnout (no worker rostered for more than 2–3 shifts per week with this specific client).
- We are seeking staff with availability every Tuesday 9am to 1pm and every other Saturday 4pm to 9pm (Saturday commencing 15th August repeating pattern)
Staff Support:
We recognise this is a demanding role and ensure strong management support, including:
- Ongoing contact with management to troubleshoot concerns and receive feedback
- Confidential supervisions available whenever required
- Monthly staff meetings and team-building activities
- Training in escalations and incident reporting
- Mentorship and guidance from senior staff
- Detailed information packs provided before buddy shifts, including safety planning, routines, and behaviour management tips
- Active monitoring for burnout and roster adjustments where needed
