SMITH BROS PTY LTD is a family-owned company that has been serving the people of Western Queensland for over 50 years. We operate a large modern hardware store in Longreach. Our range includes everything that you would expect from a good hardware store as well as timber, sheeting, roofing, bulk cement, LP gas, glass, flat pack kitchens and many other products.

We are also fully registered commercial and residential builders. We are seeking skilled and experienced Plasterer to join our friendly and hardworking team. As a plasterer you will prepare, coat, and finish interior walls, ceilings, and exterior surfaces with materials like plaster, cement, or render to create smooth, durable, or decorative surfaces.

It also includes install plasterboard (drylining), apply base and finish coats, and create specialized finishes like cornices or textured coatings Key Responsibilities include and are not limited to: Determine plasterboard layout, clean surfaces, remove old plaster, fix plasterboard (drylining), and install insulation or corner beads.

Measure, mark, and cut plasterboard, lift and position panels, and secure them to walls, ceilings and battens. Understand and manage the quantities of material required for the job. Prepare and mix different types of raw materials to get the plaster ready.





Cover joins and nail holes with wet plaster, joint tape and sealing compound, then smooth them using wet brush and sandpaper. Apply wet coats to surfaces using a trowel, hawk, and other specialised tools. Smooth surfaces, apply final coats, and, in some cases, adding decorative features.

Fix damaged walls and ceilings, including patching holes or covering cracks. Apply and finish acoustic, insulate and fireproof materials bonded with plaster, plastic cement and similar materials. Apply protective coatings like cement render or pebble dash to the exterior of buildings.

The right person for this role must have: At least 3 years' work experience as a plasterer or in a similar role. Knowledge of different plastering techniques and materials.

Valuable communication skills. Have an eye for smooth, perfectly finished, and straight surfaces. The ability to work independently or as part of the team.

Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Experience in using several types of plastering materials. Knowledge of decorative plastering and design an advantage.
