Vacuum Truck Supplies is expanding its Queensland presence with a new branch based in a brand new facility in Morayfield. We are seeking an experienced, capable and reliable Mechanic / Technician to support our growing fleet of vacuum trucks, rental equipment, customer units, parts and service operations.
The successful applicant must have substantial hands‑on experience working with heavy vehicles, mobile plant, industrial equipment, vacuum trucks or similar truck‑mounted equipment. This is not an entry‑level position and would suit an experienced all‑rounder who is confident working across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and fabrication tasks.
About the role
The VTS Mechanic / Technician will be responsible for inspecting, servicing, repairing and supporting a range of vacuum truck equipment, including:
- DrainVac combination units
- Liquid waste trucks
- Vac semi‑trailers
- Customer‑owned vacuum trucks and related equipment
The role will primarily be workshop‑based at Morayfield, with some mobile support, customer site attendance and breakdown assistance required
Key responsibilities
- Service, diagnose and repair vacuum trucks and truck‑mounted vacuum equipment
- Carry out preventative maintenance, inspections and pre‑delivery checks
- Support rental fleet readiness, customer handovers and breakdown response
- Diagnose faults across hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and mechanical systems
- Complete repairs to vacuum pumps, water pumps, hose reels, valves, controls, pipework and associated components
- Perform fabrication, welding and equipment modification work where required
- Assist with the fit‑out, upgrading and rectification of new and used equipment
- Identify required parts and occasionally assist with parts ordering
- Maintain clean, safe and organised workshop practices
- Complete job cards, service records and basic reporting
- Communicate clearly with customers, suppliers, contractors and internal VTS staff
- Provide technical assistance to external contractors where required
Essential skills and experience
The successful applicant must have:
- A minimum of five years’ relevant hands‑on experience in heavy vehicles, vacuum trucks, mobile plant, industrial equipment, hydraulics or a closely related field
- Demonstrated experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical equipment
- Practical experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Experience with 24V truck electrical systems and fault finding
- Strong practical problem‑solving and diagnostic ability
- The ability to work independently and complete repairs without requiring constant supervision
- A strong understanding of safe workshop practices and workplace safety requirements
- The ability to communicate professionally with customers, operators, suppliers and other technicians
Applicants must be able to demonstrate suitable experience in several of the following areas:
- Heavy diesel mechanical repairs
- Vacuum trucks, hydro excavation units, drain cleaning trucks or liquid waste equipment
- Hydraulic pumps, valves, cylinders, motors, PTOs and hose systems
- Pneumatic valves, actuators and control systems
- 24V truck electrical systems
- ABS and EBS systems
- PTO and driveline systems
- Vacuum pumps, water pumps and associated pipework
- Hose reels, boom systems, valves and tanks
- Fabrication and welding
- General truck body and equipment repairs
- Mechanical and electrical fault finding
Previous experience with vacuum trucks or similar specialised equipment will be highly regarded. However, experienced heavy vehicle mechanics, plant mechanics and hydraulic technicians with the right breadth of skills are also encouraged to apply
Useful tickets and licences
The following would be beneficial but are not essential for the right person:
- Heavy vehicle mechanical trade qualification
- HR or HC truck licence
- EWP or working‑at‑heights ticket
- Welding qualifications or a fabrication trade background
- Hydraulic hose and fitting experience
- Previous experience in the waste, civil, drilling, mining or industrial services industries
