About the role
As Archives Officer, you'll be responsible for the ongoing management, preservation and accessibility of Council's physical and digital archives. You'll coordinate on-site and off-site archival storage, oversee record retrievals, appraise and sentence records, manage digitisation projects and support compliance with legislative and corporate recordkeeping requirements.
Working closely with internal stakeholders, you'll provide expert advice on archival processes and contribute to continuous improvements in Council's records management practices.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Manage Council's physical and digital archives, including records held on-site and with off-site storage providers
- Appraise, classify, sentence and dispose of records in accordance with the State Records Act 1998 and approved disposal authorities (FA450 and GA28)
- Coordinate the digitisation of legacy records and maintain accurate metadata within Content Manager
- Prepare archival records for long-term preservation and transfer to Museums of History NSW
- Provide advice and support to staff on archival processes, recordkeeping requirements and records retrieval
- Contribute to records management projects, audits and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen compliance and business processes
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- A Certificate III in Records and Information Management (or equivalent)
- Experience in records management or archives, including appraisal, classification and sentencing of records using approved disposal authorities
- Practical experience using Content Manager or a similar Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS)
- Sound knowledge of the State Records Act 1998, FA450, GA28 and public sector recordkeeping practices
- Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and a commitment to maintaining accurate records
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work collaboratively, provide practical advice and adapt to changing priorities
