Harrison McMillan is seeking an experienced Security Engineer to support and uplift cybersecurity operations, Microsoft Sentinel capability, and security tooling within a federal government environment.
This is a long-term 12-month contract with 2 x 12-month extension options and is based in ACT. Hybrid working arrangements are available.
Due to the nature of this role, a minimum Baseline security clearance with the ability to obtain Negative Vetting Level 1 is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Configure and troubleshoot log source integrations into Microsoft Sentinel and related SIEM platforms.
- Develop alerting rules, threat response playbooks, and KQL queries to support investigations and threat hunting.
- Administer and maintain cybersecurity tooling including SIEM, WAF, DLP, vulnerability scanners, proxy solutions,
and application whitelisting.
- Support cyber uplift initiatives and ensure alignment with ISM, PSPF, and Essential Eight frameworks.
- Mentor junior team members and collaborate across business and government stakeholders.
Essential Criteria:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience with Microsoft security technologies including Sentinel, Intune, Entra Active Directory, Purview, and Microsoft 365.
- Proven experience maintaining, operating, and automating SIEM technology.
- Strong experience in team collaboration, business engagement, and cyber uplift projects.
- Experience implementing ISM controls, PSPF, and Essential Eight strategies.
- Relevant industry certifications.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience with incident response processes.
- Experience across broader cybersecurity domains including SecOps and GRC.
