About the Role
As a Chef at Singh Curry House Narangba, you will plan and organise the preparation and cooking of a variety of Indian dishes, maintain high standards of food quality and presentation, and ensure a smooth and productive kitchen operation. You will work closely with our kitchen team and management to plan menus, control costs, and ensure consistency in taste and presentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and organise the preparation and cooking of a variety of Indian dishes according to our recipes and standards
- Plan menus and develop new dishes and specials in consultation with management
- Estimate food and labour costs, and cost menu items accordingly
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels, ordering and restocking raw materials and supplies as needed, ensuring food is stored in temperature-controlled facilities
- Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation
- Discuss food preparation issues and feedback with management and kitchen/waiting staff,
and work collaboratively to resolve them.
- Prepare and cook a variety of Indian dishes according to our recipes and standards
- Demonstrate cooking techniques and advise kitchen staff on cooking procedures
- Train, supervise and delegate tasks to kitchen staff to ensure smooth, efficient kitchen operations
- Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards and regulations at all times
- Maintain a clean and organised kitchen, following proper cleaning and sanitisation procedures
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures and workplace regulations
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience as a Chef in a high-volume restaurant
- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery/ Kitchen Management and a Diploma in Hospitality Management (or equivalent trade/vocational qualification)
- Strong knowledge and experience in Indian cuisine
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work well within a team environment
- Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required
