About the role

Clarence Valley Council is seeking a qualified and experienced Technical Officer (Floodplain) to join our Water Cycle Team. This role involves conducting investigations and providing technical support for floodplain operations, maintenance, and capital works projects, including levee wall systems, flood gates, weirs, and pump stations.

Key Responsibilities





- Plan and deliver floodplain capital works, maintenance, and operations programs, ensuring compliance with WHS, environmental, and quality standards.
- Provide technical advice and support on environmental, WHS, and construction matters related to floodplain infrastructure.
- Conduct site inspections, prepare reports, cost estimates, and recommend maintenance or construction options.
- Manage procurement and hire of plant, labour, materials, and services within budgetary limits, monitoring expenditure closely.
- Assist in managing floodgate/drain operations, including volunteer training and development of management plans.
- Support grant application processes and management for government funding.
- Act as Alternate Supervisor during flood events, preparation, and recovery in accordance with Council's Flood Manual.

What We're Looking For

- Experience in floodplain management, asset maintenance, and capital works project delivery.
- Strong knowledge of WHS and environmental compliance.
- Ability to manage budgets, procurement, and contractor coordination efficiently.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

This position is located at Council's Rushforth Road Works Depot however, this may change should business needs identify other work locations to be more appropriate to deliver our services in the future.

A probation period applies to this position.
