Job Description
SB SERVICES PTY LTD The purpose of the Truck Driver position at SB Services Pty Ltd is to safely operate company vehicles for the transportation, loading, unloading, and delivery of goods, materials, equipment, or vehicles as required by the business. The role is responsible for ensuring that all deliveries and vehicle movements are completed safely, efficiently, and on time while complying with road safety requirements, workplace health and safety standards, load restraint procedures, and company policies.
The Truck Driver at SB Services Pty Ltd will be responsible for operating trucks and related vehicles in a safe, professional, and efficient manner. The role involves moving vehicles into assigned locations, loading and unloading goods using authorised equipment, securing freight correctly, conducting vehicle inspections, following planned delivery routes, and maintaining accurate delivery and vehicle records. The position requires a reliable and safety-focused individual who can manage transport duties with attention to detail, follow operational instructions, communicate effectively with supervisors, and promptly report any vehicle defects, safety hazards, delays, or delivery issues.
The Truck Driver will play an important role in supporting SB Services Pty Ltd’s daily transport and logistics operations by ensuring that goods are handled, transported, and delivered in accordance with business requirements and safety standards.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Safely manoeuvre vehicles into designated loading and unloading positions to facilitate efficient freight handling operations.
- Load and unload goods using authorised lifting, tipping, and material handling equipment in accordance with company procedures and workplace safety requirements.
- Review and verify loading and delivery documentation, inspect the condition of goods,
and obtain required delivery confirmations and customer acknowledgements.
- Assess and estimate load weights to ensure compliance with legal load limitations and maintain safe and balanced weight distribution.
- Secure, stow, and cover freight appropriately to prevent damage, loss, or movement during transportation.
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety policies, transport regulations, and safe work practices during loading, unloading, transportation, and the handling of hazardous materials where applicable.
- Conduct routine pre-start, operational, and post-trip vehicle inspections to confirm roadworthiness and identify any mechanical or safety issues.
- Perform minor vehicle maintenance where appropriate and promptly report vehicle defects or arrange servicing with authorised mechanics when required.
- Plan, monitor, and follow designated delivery routes using GPS navigation and route-planning tools to ensure timely and efficient delivery of goods.
- Remain informed of traffic conditions, road restrictions, weather forecasts, and applicable road transport legislation to maintain safe and compliant vehicle operations.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, vehicle inspections, maintenance activities, incidents, delays, and other operational documentation in accordance with company requirements.
- Promptly report vehicle faults, safety hazards, delivery discrepancies, accidents, or operational issues to the relevant supervisor or management.
- Operate appropriate tools, lifting devices,
and handling equipment to ensure the safe and efficient movement of goods.
- Deliver a high standard of customer service by ensuring goods are transported and delivered in excellent condition while maintaining professional communication with customers and clients.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- AQF Certificate II or III
- Minimum 1 year of truck driving experience
- Be at least 21 years old for interstate driving or 18 for intrastate driving.
- Hold a valid standard driver’s license.
- Pass written knowledge tests covering road signs, safety regulations, and driving rules.
- Complete a practical driving test to demonstrate your ability to operate a truck safely.
- Pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination to ensure you are medically fit to drive.
- Undergo a background check, with a clean driving record and no serious criminal convictions.
- Acquire additional endorsements, if necessary, such as for hazardous materials, tank vehicles, or multiple trailers.
- Meet vision and hearing requirements and be free from medical conditions that could impair driving ability.
- Consider attending a truck driving school for specialised training and preparation for the CDL tests.
WORKING HOURS Full-time position, 38 hours per week.
