Warehouse Team Leader / Hands-on Supervisor
Hume, Canberra ACT
Permanent full-time
$75,000 per annum plus superannuation
Lead from the floor in an established Canberra warehousing and distribution business
National Mailing & Marketing (NMM) is an established Canberra-based provider of warehousing, fulfilment, distribution, mailing and related services to government and corporate clients.
We are seeking an experienced and practical Warehouse Team Leader/Supervisor to coordinate the day-to-day activities of our warehouse team while remaining actively involved in warehouse operations.
This is a genuinely hands-on position. You will lead from the warehouse floor and work alongside the team—operating forklifts, receiving and putting away stock, replenishing locations, picking and packing orders, preparing carrier manifests and ensuring daily dispatch requirements are completed accurately and on time.
The successful applicant will be someone who knows how a warehouse should operate, can organise people and priorities, and is prepared to step in and complete the work whenever required.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the daily activities of warehouse employees.
- Allocate work and monitor progress against daily priorities, client requirements and dispatch cut-off times.
- Work alongside the team in receiving, put-away, replenishment, picking, packing, stock counting and dispatch.
- Safely operate forklifts, including counterbalance forklifts and electric reach trucks.
- Process warehouse transactions accurately through the Warehouse Management System.
- Maintain accurate stock locations, inventory records and supporting documentation.
- Prepare and verify Australia Post manifests, lodgement documentation and carrier dispatch records.
- Arrange and manage dispatches through courier and freight-carrier systems.
- Plan safe pallet stacking, racking placement, load stability and efficient use of warehouse space.
- Monitor inventory discrepancies, stock damage, service failures and operational issues, and implement corrective action.
- Ensure client orders and service-level requirements are completed accurately and on time.
- Train, support and coach warehouse employees in systems, equipment and operating procedures.
- Maintain appropriate staffing, equipment and material resources for daily workloads.
- Ensure the warehouse remains safe, clean, organised and presentable.
- Maintain operational records for reporting, client billing and performance measurement.
- Identify and implement practical improvements to warehouse processes and productivity.
- Maintain effective communication with Operations, Account Management and other internal teams.
What you will bring
To succeed in this position, you will have:
- Substantial hands-on experience in warehousing, logistics or distribution.
- Previous experience as a warehouse team leader, leading hand or supervisor.
- A current Australian LF High Risk Work Licence.
- Practical experience operating counterbalance forklifts and electric reach trucks.
- Sound knowledge of receiving, put-away, replenishment, stock control, picking, packing and dispatch processes.
- Experience using a computerised Warehouse Management System.
- Experience with SEQOS, Pronto or a similar WMS will be highly regarded.
- Experience preparing Australia Post manifests and working with courier or freight-carrier platforms.
- A practical understanding of pallet configuration, safe stacking, racking, load stability and warehouse space utilisation.
- Strong inventory accuracy and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to organise people, workloads and competing priorities.
- Confidence training employees and addressing performance or process issues.
- Positive computer, written communication and record-keeping skills.
- A current Australian driver’s licence.
- A strong commitment to workplace safety, accuracy and customer service.
Experience working in a multi-client or third-party logistics environment would be an advantage.
The person we are looking for
You will be reliable, organised and calm under pressure. You will notice what needs to be done, clearly direct the team and then work alongside them to get it completed.
You must be comfortable performing physical warehouse duties and spending most of your working day within the operational warehouse environment. Some flexibility with start and finish times, and occasional after-hours or weekend work, may be required to meet operational demands.
What NMM offers
- A permanent full-time position.
- A salary of $75,000 plus superannuation.
- A varied role combining practical warehouse work with team leadership.
- The opportunity to work within an established Canberra business servicing government and corporate clients.
- Genuine responsibility for daily warehouse performance and service delivery.
- The opportunity to contribute to warehouse systems and continuous improvement initiatives.
Applicants must hold a current LF High Risk Work Licence and have the right to work in Australia.
