Build Boats. Build Your Career.
At Formosa Marine, we don't just build boats – we build boats that Australians rely on to fish harder, explore further and create lifelong memories.
We're looking for a motivated new apprentice, 1st Year or 2nd Year Apprentice Spray Painter to join our production team. Whether you're just starting out in the trade or already have some experience under your belt, if you're reliable, eager to learn and take pride in doing the job properly from the ground up, we'd love to hear from you.
About the Role
Working alongside an experienced tradesman, you'll learn every aspect of marine spray painting, including:
- Surface preparation, sanding, filling and masking
- Priming and preparing aluminium boats for paint
- Mixing paints and coatings to specification
- Assisting with spray application using professional equipment
- Learning high-quality finishing techniques
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe work environment
- Handling paints, thinners and other dangerous goods safely in accordance with workplace procedures
- Working with the production team to deliver premium Australian-made boats
About You
We're not just looking for someone who can paint—we're looking for someone who understands that great paint starts long before the spray gun comes out. Attention to detail during preparation is what separates a good finish from an exceptional one.
You’ll ideally be:
- A new apprentice, or a current 1st or 2nd Year Apprentice Spray Painter
- Reliable, punctual and willing to learn
- Someone who takes pride in quality workmanship
- Comfortable following safety procedures and handling dangerous goods responsibly
- Physically fit and happy working in a hands-on manufacturing environment
- Able to work well both independently and as part of a close-knit team
- Positive, respectful and committed to continuous improvement
What We Offer
- Full-time employment (38 hours per week) with the opportunity for adaptable working hours
- Ongoing support throughout your apprenticeship
- Modern workshop, new spray booth and quality equipment
- A friendly, supportive team culture
- The opportunity to work on premium Australian-made boats
- Long-term career opportunities with a growing Australian manufacturer
Why Formosa Marine?
At Formosa Marine, quality isn't just a buzzword—it's what we're known for. Every boat that leaves our factory represents the pride of the people who built it.
If you're looking for an apprenticeship where your work matters, where you'll learn from experienced tradespeople, and where you'll build products that Australians are proud to own, we want to hear from you.
Applicants must have the right to work in Australia. As part of our commitment to workplace health and safety, successful applicants will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical assessment, including respiratory (lung function) testing, to ensure they are fit to work safely in a spray-painting environment where respiratory protection is essential. All required personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protection is provided.
