Flight Training Adelaide Queensland (FTAQ) is one of the leading aviation training organisations in the southern hemisphere. We deliver ab-initio pilot training for the airline industry, training students from Australia and around the world, and hold a long term contract to deliver training for the Qantas Group Pilot Academy.

Our modern, well-equipped campus is at Wellcamp Airport, a short drive from Toowoomba, with a current flying fleet of Diamond DA40 and DA42 aircraft.

About the role

Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, the Financial Controller runs the finance and accounting function for FTA Queensland. You will lead and mentor the finance team, own the monthly reporting cycle, and partner with the CFO on budgets, forecasts and year end.

The role has genuine breadth. Alongside core financial control, you will oversee payroll, manage VET Student Loan compliance, and prepare the quarterly KPI reporting and business plan updates that go to Qantas. You will work closely with managers across the campus and with your Financial Controller counterpart at our Parafield site in Adelaide.

What you will be doing

- Prepare monthly management accounts, with detailed analysis of results for presentation at the monthly management review
- Prepare revenue, cost base and cash flow budgets and forecasts in conjunction with the CFO
- Oversee the fortnightly payroll process end to end, from onboarding through to payment and reporting
- Complete payroll tax and Workcover returns, and maintain compliance with the VET Student Loans Rules
- Reconcile and review customer advance payments and VET Student Loan payments, and issue student closeout calculations




- Prepare and review quarterly balance sheet reconciliations, and oversee bank reconciliation
- Manage capital expenditure reporting for monthly issue to managers
- Prepare the quarterly Qantas KPI report and update the business plan for review by the COO
- Prepare financial year end annual and statutory accounts, and manage EOFY audit preparation with external auditors
- Advise departmental managers on cost management and budgets
- Lead, mentor and develop the finance team
- Investigate and implement improvements to finance systems and procedures

What we are looking for

- At least five years' experience in a similar role
- Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Accounting, or equivalent (desirable)
- Experience with an ERP system (desirable) and strong skills across the Microsoft suite
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines

Location

Our campus is at Wellcamp Airport, a short drive from Toowoomba. Public transport to the campus is limited, so this role will suit someone with their own transport. Free parking is available on site, right near the workplace.
