We're hiring multiple Casual Retail Sales Assistants for the Royal Adelaide Show.
This is a fun and busy retail environment where you'll be interacting with customers throughout the day. We're looking for friendly, enthusiastic people who enjoy talking to customers, sharing their knowledge and helping people find products they'll love.
You'll be part of a team working across our expanded Show stall, featuring Pokémon, trading cards, anime, collectibles, board games and tabletop products.
The position includes pre-show setup, retail sales throughout the Show and pack-down afterwards. You must be available between the 28th of August and 16th of September but candidates with more limited availability are encouraged to apply (please specify).
There may also be opportunities for ongoing casual/part-time work with TrainerHub following the Show for exceptional candidates, including further events, retail, social media management etc.
About Us
TrainerHub is an Australian Pokémon and pop-culture retailer specialising in Pokémon TCG, collectibles, Japanese merchandise, anime, plush and other hobby products.
What started as a small Pokémon community project has grown into an established business serving collectors and hobbyists across Australia, with a strong focus on Pokémon and hard-to-find products from Japan.
2026 marks our fourth year at the Royal Adelaide Show, as we continue expanding into TCGs, anime, board games and tabletop hobbies. Later this year, we're also taking the next step in our growth with the opening of our first dedicated retail space.
We're looking for energetic, enthusiastic people to join us for another huge Adelaide Show.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for people who are friendly, approachable and genuinely enjoy working with customers.
You should:
- Be able to follow instructions - Any application without a cover letter addressing the job description will not be considered.
- Enjoy talking to people and helping customers find products
- Be friendly, welcoming enthusiastic and approachable with customers
- Remain positive and professional during busy periods
- Work well as part of a team and be comfortable receiving feedback and learning new things
- Stay focused and organised throughout a busy shift
Previous customer service or retail experience is highly desirable.
Hospitality, events, markets, sales or other customer-facing experience will also be highly regarded.
This role is open to anyone with relevant experience that us 16 years or older. If you have never worked in retail in school we'd still love to hear from you if you can demonstrate relevant experience through volunteering, sporting activities, clubs, events, school activities or other responsibilities.
Pokémon, TCG & Hobby Knowledge
A good knowledge of Pokémon is important, as it makes up a large part of what we sell. You should be comfortable discussing Pokémon (knowledge of many Pokemon names) and the hobby with customers.
You don't need to be a Pokémon expert — our existing team already has plenty of specialist knowledge — but genuine familiarity with Pokémon and the Pokémon TCG is expected.
We're also expanding into other TCGs, anime, board games and tabletop hobbies, so knowledge and enthusiasm in these areas is highly valued.
Experience with Magic:
The Gathering, One Piece, Riftbound, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Warhammer, board games, anime/manga or other collectible hobbies will be highly regarded.
We're not expecting anyone to know everything we sell — genuine knowledge and enthusiasm in some areas, combined with a willingness to learn, is what we're looking for.
What the role involves
Customer Service & Sales
- Greeting customers and creating a welcoming retail experience
- Engaging with customers and helping them find suitable products
- Answering questions about Pokémon, TCGs, collectibles and other products
- Recommending products based on customer interests
- Operating POS systems and processing cash/EFTPOS transactions
- Managing multiple customers during busy periods
Stall Operations
- Restocking and organising merchandise
- Maintaining an attractive and well-presented stall
- Assisting with stock movement and inventory
- Following safe handling and setup procedures
- Helping with setup before the Show and pack-down afterwards
Social Media Experience— Highly Desirable
Applicants with strong social media skills may also have the opportunity to assist with TrainerHub's social media during and after the show. Desirable skills include
- Creating photos, videos, Reels and other social media content
- Editing content into engaging, platform-appropriate posts
- Writing captions and preparing content for publishing
- Posting content across our social media platforms
- Capturing the atmosphere, products and customer experience at the Show

Who we're looking for
Essential
- Friendly, approachable and confident with customers
- Working knowledge of Pokémon
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Reliable, punctual and comfortable working busy, long shifts (able to be on feet for 8-12h a day)
- Able to follow instructions, take feedback and work well in a team
- Basic maths and cash-handling ability
- Reliable transport and availability for the required Show dates
- Legal right to work in Australia and a Tax File Number
- Able to pass a police check and a working with children check (essential for employment at the Adelaide Show)
Highly Desirable
- Previous retail, hospitality, sales or customer service experience
- Experience with Magic: The Gathering, One Piece, Riftbound, Yu-Gi-Oh! or other TCGs
- Knowledge of Warhammer, board games, tabletop gaming or anime/manga
- Strong social media and content creation skills
- POS, warehouse or stock-handling experience
Working Conditions
The Royal Adelaide Show is a busy retail environment and shifts can be long.
You should be comfortable:
- Working 8–12 hour shifts during the Show, with appropriate breaks
- Standing and moving around for extended periods
- Working in a crowded and noisy environment
- Dealing with periods of high customer volume
- Working evenings and nights

Potential Future Opportunities
TrainerHub is preparing for the expansion of our retail operations, including a new physical store.
While this is primarily a fixed-term Adelaide Show role and ongoing employment is not guaranteed, outstanding team members may be considered for future casual, part-time or permanent opportunities as our business expands.
The Show will also give us an prospect to identify people who may be a great fit for our longer-term team.

If you have experience creating, editing or publishing social media content, we'd love to hear about it. Please include examples or links to relevant work where appropriate.
5. Your availability
Please provide your availability for weekdays, weekends and the full Adelaide Show period.
6. Your location
Please provide your postcode of residence, which will help us coordinate interviews and rostering.
7. Transport
Please advise whether you have reliable access to transport and your driver's licence status, if applicable.
8. If you have no previous employment
Please include your highest level of schooling completed, extracurricular activities, sporting activities, clubs, volunteering or other relevant experience.

Ability to follow instructions is important.
