We are seeking a Policy Officer to join our Canberra team and support a nationally significant Program within a government Department.
This role offers an opportunity to contribute to an important national initiative. You will work alongside policy, program and delivery specialists to support policy development, governance, stakeholder engagement and strategic decision-making.
About the Role
As a Policy Officer, you will support the delivery of policy analysis, governance activities and stakeholder engagement.
Working closely with Commonwealth Government stakeholders, program teams and policy specialists, you will prepare high-quality briefing materials, coordinate governance documentation and contribute to consultation activities that support informed decision-making and successful program delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct research and analysis on policy, governance and regulatory matters.
- Prepare briefing papers, reports, presentations and executive correspondence for senior government officials.
- Support stakeholder consultation across Commonwealth agencies, sector representatives and key stakeholders.
- Assist with the preparation and coordination of governance documentation, committee papers and consultation responses.
- Monitor emerging policy developments, risks and implementation impacts.
- Contribute to submissions and documentation for governance forums and decision-making bodies.
- Collaborate with policy, program and delivery teams to ensure alignment between policy intent and operational implementation.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with government requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen governance and program outcomes.
About You
- You are a cooperative and analytical policy professional who enjoys working in complex government environments and producing high-quality written work.
- You bring sound judgement, excellent communication skills and the ability to interpret complex information and translate it into practical advice for decision-makers.
- Degree qualification in Public Policy, Political Science, Public Administration, Law or a related discipline.
- Minimum two years' experience in policy development, governance, regulatory analysis or public sector program support.
- Experience preparing high-quality briefing papers, reports and executive documentation.
- Strong analytical and research capability with the ability to synthesise complex information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid stakeholder engagement and consultation skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced government environment.
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Proficiency across the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience working within Commonwealth Government.
- Exposure to education policy, digital identity, data governance or regulatory programs.
- Experience supporting governance committees or senior executive decision-making processes.
- Experience working within large transformation or policy implementation programs.
Security & Location Requirements
Canberra-based role.
Hybrid working arrangements aligned to client requirements.
Minimum Baseline Security Clearance required.
