About the role
Bauxite Hills is a unique offering. The purpose of the role is to effectively lead, plan, manage and control the mining and processing operations to achieve the Companies strategies, plans and targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction to your team so that they achieve Company strategies, plans and goals.
- Lead, participate and show initiative in the continual improvement of ways of working to prevent fatalities/serious bodily injuries/high consequence environmental events and reduce the frequency of lower consequence injuries/health effects/environmental events.
- Lead the development, implementation and maintenance of the Safety Management Systems (SMS)
and Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and lead the development, implementation and maintenance of Operating Systems for your areas of accountability.
- Lead the cost tracking and management of costs in areas under your control; continually challenge costs and ways of working to maintain low unit costs; assist CFO to develop budgets, forecasts, and reporting.
- Ensure your team plans effectively and organises so that the plan is achieved; and regularly track progress so that corrective action can be taken early to still meet the targets.
- Continually review and analyse the availability, reliability, utilisation and productivity and efficiencies in areas under your control and implement initiatives to extract the most effective outcomes - safety, environment, quality, volume, cost.
- Validate your assumptions and stress test plans to prevent issues; drive an appropriate level of urgency; and follow up actions to achieve Company strategies, plan and targets.
- Design, establish, implement and maintain useful and simple systems that supports the achievement of Companies strategies, plan and targets.
- Attend workplaces at a frequency and with a level of effectiveness that enables an effective relationship with your people so that it will support the achievement of targets, effective safety/environmental outcomes and compliance, and effective maintenance and production outcomes.
- Establish an effective verification system, where required,
to understand variance from expected outcomes and corrective actions.
- In your areas of accountability, take actions to meet all relevant external legislation, regulations, codes, standards, approvals or similar and internal policies and procedures.
- Review the performance of your direct reports and broader team members; Recognise performance and/or coach, develop and/or confront others’ ways of working or behaviours to align with Company values and to achieve Company strategies, plans and targets.
About you
- Strong knowledge, skills and experience in managing a surface mining operation or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline e.g. Engineering, Applied Science
- Qld SSE Qualification (MQSHA) or immediate ability to obtain such qualification
- Experience as a Mining Manager and/or SSE or a minimum of 10 years’ experience in production operational roles and ready to step up into a Mining Manager/SSE role.
- Sound knowledge of Safety and Health Management Systems and risk management
- Sound knowledge of safety and health legislation - MQSHA, MQSHR.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
This role has a 5/2 FIFO Hybrid Roster where the applicant ideally will reside in the Far North Queensland Region (preferably in Bamaga, Mapoon, Weipa or Cairns).
