The role requires a strong understanding of digital news publishing, audience behaviour and the needs of a NSW audience, with a clear focus on delivering timely, compelling and high‑performing content.

Working at the centre of a fast‑paced newsroom, the Digital Editor will play a critical role in shaping how stories are presented, prioritised and distributed throughout the day. The successful candidate will combine sharp news judgement with strong digital production skills, leadership capability and a deep understanding of what resonates with local audiences.

Key responsibilities

Lead on‑platform and off‑platform producers across The Daily Telegraph’s digital news operation

Oversee the presentation, placement and distribution of content across the masthead’s digital channels

Drive digital publishing decisions that maximise audience reach, engagement and subscriber value

Ensure content is tailored to the needs and interests of a NSW audience

Work closely with newsroom leaders, editors and reporters to identify priority stories and digital opportunities

Optimise headlines, story packaging, homepages, article promotion and channel distribution

Maintain a strong focus on breaking news, live coverage and major audience moments

Use audience data, performance insights and editorial judgement to inform publishing strategy

Ensure a consistent, high‑quality user experience across digital touchpoints

Lead and develop a team of producers in a fast‑moving, deadline‑driven environment

Who are you?

At least five years’ experience managing content on news websites

Strong experience in digital news production, publishing and audience‑focused content strategy

Proven ability to lead teams and manage digital workflows in a breaking news environment

Strong understanding of NSW news, issues and audience interests

Excellent news judgement and a strong instinct for digital story presentation and promotion

Experience using analytics and performance data to improve content outcomes

Strong communication, collaboration and organisational skills

Ability to work calmly and decisively under pressure

What we’re looking for

A digital‑first editor with strong leadership capability

A sharp operator who understands what matters to NSW audiences

Someone who can balance speed, accuracy and performance

A collaborative newsroom leader who can bring out the best in producers and work effectively with editorial teams across the business
