Project Engineer, Queensland Operations & Customer Projects
Support a lean Queensland operation and get hands-on with small, practical customer and site-based projects that make a visible difference
We’re looking for a practical, hands‑on Project Engineer with an engineering or trades background to support our Queensland operation and deliver small customer projects, site modifications and equipment‑related works from scope through to handover.
Reporting to the Operations Manager - Australia and working closely with colleagues across operations, technology and projects, you’ll own a varied mix of site and customer projects across Queensland, delivered in line with project management frameworks. This role suits a seasoned project engineer or an experienced tradesperson already delivering small projects, who enjoys practical engineering environments, gets hands‑on to solve problems, and values strong internal coordination as much as getting the job done.
What the work really looks like
These are small‑scale, hands‑on projects in our Magnesia business: small plants, dosing units, associated equipment, site modifications and equipment‑related works. It’s practical, day‑to‑day engineering where you’ll build, troubleshoot and fix real equipment in the field.
These are modest, practical projects, not large capital programs. The scale is small and the work is genuinely useful, and that’s the point. Because our Magnesia business makes magnesium‑based products used in water and wastewater treatment, it’s real, customer‑facing work, with immediate operational relevance. If that sounds like your kind of work, it’s a great place to build your project career.
Key accountabilities
Own end‑to‑end project delivery of small customer projects,
site modifications and equipment‑related works – from scope and planning through to handover.
Keep stakeholders aligned and ensure alignment to engineering and project management standards and frameworks.
Coordinate site and customer execution including access, work packs, contractors and operational interfaces.
Drive management of change and keep documentation and as‑builts current where plant or equipment is modified.
Resolve field issues using practical technical judgement.
Maintain project discipline across schedule, budget, risk, procurement and reporting, using fit‑for‑purpose governance.
Champion safety and quality in planning, execution and issue management.
Success in this role will look like:
Projects delivered safely, on time, and to budget
Confident field delivery across internal sites and customer work
High‑quality handovers, documentation and updated as‑builts where required
Growing trust with customers, contractors and internal stakeholders
Reliable follow‑through and visible improvements in the field
You’ll bring:
Proven project delivery capability. You might be a degree‑qualified engineer or an experienced tradesperson, but what matters most is practical judgement built over time.
Experience delivering site works or small projects, with the desire to keep growing into broader project management
A willingness to get on the tools and stay close to the work,
with an interest in site modifications, equipment works, customer projects or operational improvement initiatives
A developing understanding of maintenance interfaces, management of change and as‑built document control
Strong internal liaison skills and the ability to work effectively across teams
A practical, adaptable approach and the confidence to work well in a lean workplace
This is a role where you can see the impact of your work. You’ll stay close to delivery, build practical project management capability and contribute to work that matters to customers and to the way Calix operates.
