Position Description

Join our Rural and Remote Health team as a Lecturer in Remote Health (Nursing), where you will play a key role in preparing and supporting the future health workforce for remote and Indigenous communities. This teaching-focused position contributes to excellence in nursing and remote health education through cutting-edge, student-centred learning experiences. Working within a multidisciplinary team across the Northern Territory, you will deliver high-quality teaching, develop contemporary curriculum, and help equip graduates with the skills and knowledge required to thrive in remote acute and primary healthcare settings.

Key responsibilities

- Delivering engaging and innovative teaching across nursing and remote health topics, using contemporary educational practices and technologies to enhance student success.
- Developing, coordinating and reviewing curriculum and learning materials, including undertaking Topic Coordinator responsibilities as required.
- Providing academic guidance, mentoring and professional advice to support students’ learning, career development and readiness for practice.
- Building and maintaining strong partnerships with healthcare providers, professional bodies and communities to enhance student learning opportunities and workforce outcomes in rural and remote health.

About You

You are a passionate and experienced nursing educator with a commitment to student success and excellence in teaching. Bringing contemporary professional expertise and strong tertiary teaching capability, you thrive in collaborative environments and are motivated by the opportunity to prepare the next generation of health professionals for practice in rural, remote and Indigenous healthcare settings. You combine innovative teaching approaches with outstanding communication and relationship-building skills to create engaging and supportive learning experiences. You have a robust track record of designing and delivering innovative, student-centred learning experiences, including the effective use of online and educational technologies. You possess excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with students, colleagues, industry partners and community stakeholders. You bring experience in curriculum development, academic quality processes and coordinating teaching activities, alongside an ongoing commitment to professional engagement and continuous improvement.

At Flinders Rural and Remote Health NT, our aim is to be a hub for innovative health research, education, and workforce development across the Northern Territory. We engage with students, community, and stakeholders to provide critical programs, such as the Northern Territory Medical Program, Paramedicine, Rural Clinical School, and the University Department of Rural Health. Our postgraduate education pathways (Remote Health Practice program), provides workforce development through Indigenous health and clinical skills training, and we have a community driven research program led by researchers committed to improving health outcomes. We work alongside Poche SA+NT focussing on Indigenous leadership capacity development and developing the Indigenous health workforce. All activities are driven by our values which focus on the long-term and short-term needs of the NT community.

- Northern Territory Government legislation (the Care and Protection of Children Act 2007) now requires all individuals in child related employment or whose duties involve, or are likely to involve, contact with a child, to hold a valid 'Working with Children Clearance' (Ochre Card). This position involves child related work and is assessed as requiring a Working with Children Clearance/Ochre Card.
- A valid Northern Territory (NT) Driver’s License is an essential requirement of this position and must be maintained for the duration of employment.
