As a Scientist, you will work as a team member in Molecular Morphology Section providing a comprehensive diagnostic service to those hospitals on site as well as a comprehensive central support and referral service to laboratories throughout Queensland and overseas. You will also apply independent scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens using histological, immunohistochemistry, enzyme histochemistry, Neurohistology and molecular histochemistry leading to the verification and validation of test results, and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate.

Key responsibilities:

- Apply high level independent scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens using Histochemistry, Molecular Histochemistry, Neurohistology, Enzyme Histochemistry and Immunohistochemistry leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate.
- Undertake diagnostic testing and related duties in the Molecular Morphology Section following Pathology Queensland established accredited protocols and standards in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards.
- Train and supervise staff in the various sub-specialty areas of the Molecular Morphology Section and be accountable for the work performed leading to the verification and validation of test results.
- Develop and apply scientific practices, procedures and protocols and contribute to research activities within the Molecular Morphology Section.
- Ensure the development of technical knowledge and expertise by supporting active learning and professional development of laboratory staff, registrars, pathologists and research groups in Pathology Queensland – Central, Anatomical Pathology and Cytopathology.
- Actively identify, develop, and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) and International Standardisation Organisation (ISO)



accreditation/certification that enhance the delivery of pathology services within the local service area.

About you:

You will bring advanced scientific expertise in Molecular Histochemistry, Neurohistology, Enzyme Histochemistry and Immunohistochemistry, with the ability to analyse patient specimens and apply a high level of independent skilled judgement in a specialist diagnostic environment. You will be confident providing expert advice to colleagues, anatomical pathologists, surgeons, clinicians and other stakeholders, supporting quality patient care and service delivery outcomes. As a leader and mentor, you will contribute to the development of staff through training, education and ongoing professional development activities. You will also demonstrate a commitment to scientific innovation and excellence, contributing to research initiatives and collaborations across disciplines, research groups and universities. With a strong focus on continuous improvement, you will identify and implement quality and service enhancement initiatives in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation and certification standards to support optimal patient outcomes.
