The Role
As a Patient Transport Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting patients to and from hospitals, healthcare facilities, aged care homes, and private residences. Working closely with Patient Transport Officers and clinical staff, you will ensure every journey is safe, comfortable, and delivered with exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate patient transport vehicles in accordance with road laws and organisational policies.
- Assist patients to safely enter and exit vehicles, including the use of mobility aids where required.
- Ensure the comfort, dignity and wellbeing of patients throughout every journey.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and maintain vehicle cleanliness and readiness.
- Communicate professionally with patients, healthcare facilities and the Operations Centre.
- Complete accurate transport documentation and vehicle records.
- Adhere to infection prevention, workplace health and safety, and company procedures at all times.
- Deliver outstanding customer service while representing State Medical Assistance professionally.
About You
- Strong commitment to safety, professionalism and customer service.
- Previous experience in patient transport, community transport, healthcare, disability, aged care, courier or commercial driving is highly regarded.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm, compassionate and professional when supporting vulnerable patients.
- Confidence driving larger vehicles in metropolitan and regional environments.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to complete accurate documentation.
- Flexibility to work rotating rosters, including weekends, public holidays and overtime when required.
Mandatory Requirements
- Current unrestricted Australian Driver Licence with a protected driving record.
- Full Australian working rights.
- Ability to obtain a National Police Check.
- Ability to obtain a Working With Children Check (WWCC).
- Evidence of three COVID-19 vaccinations and annual Influenza vaccination.
- Category A immunisation evidence.
- Current Mask Fit Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
