The National Press Club of Australia is an iconic member based institution that is best known for informed discussion and public policy debate over the last 55 years. Our stakeholders include journalists and other media related professionals from all over Australia, Federal parliamentarians, political advisors, senior public servants, National Associations and lobbyists, the diplomatic community, academia, plus many other professionals and thinking Australians who are vitally interested in public policy and current affairs. We are best known for our annual 60 plus national television broadcasts of the National Press Club Address and for operating a club hospitality and catering business for our members.

Accounts Officer

The National Press Club is seeking a suitable candidate for a full time Accounts Officer role. We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Accounts Officer to join our finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in accounting and gain hands-on experience in a supportive and collaborative environment.

The successful candidate will assist with the day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general administrative support. Full training will be provided where required.

Responsibilities





- Process accounts payable invoices to accounting system and ensure timely payments. Reconciliation of statements and system.
- Process accounts receivable and distribute to debtors on a timely basis. Work with Operations and Functions to ensure correct billing. Follow up for payment and debt recovery.
- Prepare daily sales reconciliation and charges sheets from till system.
- Post bank reconciliation items and balance general ledger to the bank statements on a regular basis.
- Address reconciliation from Eway report.
- Maintain asset registers and depreciation schedules
- Manage chart of accounts
- Ad hoc accounting and administration duties as required
- Responding to day-to-day individual member and corporate member enquiries
- Liaising with other areas of the business including events, marketing and the kitchen
- Has a positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Has strong attention to detail and good organizational skills
- Comfortable working with numbers and maintaining accuracy
- Has good communication and customer service skills
- Can work independently as well as part of a team
- Valuable Excel skills a must – create, populate and formularize a spreadsheet
- Experience with accounting software (e.g. MYOB, or similar) is desirable but not essential

- Someone with 6–24 months' accounting experience
