Syngenta is seeking a hands-on, data-driven Precision Agronomics Research Officerto support the delivery of a major GRDC-funded precision agriculture project focused on geospatial analytics and variable rate application of pre-emergent herbicides.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of agronomy, spatial data, field research and innovation, supporting large-scale strip trials across multiple Australian cropping regions.

About the role

Working closely with the Digital Agronomist, you will support the planning, establishment and execution of field trials across regions including SA, WA, QLD and VIC. You will collect, process and analyse spatial datasets, contribute to technical reporting, and help translate research outcomes into practical insights for growers, agronomists and project partners.

This role is a fixed term contract for someone who enjoys a mix of field-based research, data analysis and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

- Support the establishment and execution of large-scale field trials, including soil sampling, crop assessments, treatment application support and harvest data collection.
- Process and quality-assure geospatial datasets including soil maps, yield data, UAV imagery, as-applied records and weed assessment data.
- Use GIS and analytical platforms such as QGIS, ArcGIS, PCT AgCloud, SMS AgLeader, R or Python to support trial analysis.
- Conduct statistical analysis including treatment comparisons, spatial correlations, regression modelling and multivariate analysis.
- Prepare technical reports, milestone documentation, data summaries and visualisations for internal stakeholders and GRDC submissions.
- Assist with deployment,



calibration and operation of soil sensing and field technologies including Interra Scan-Soil Optix, DualEM and Sentek moisture sensors.
- Coordinate field logistics including equipment transport, sample dispatch, subcontractor scheduling and trial site activities.
- Support grower engagement activities including field walks, workshops, demonstration sites and knowledge-sharing sessions.

About you

You will bring curiosity, strong attention to detail and a practical mindset to field research and data-driven agronomy.

Ideally, you will have:

- A degree in agricultural science, environmental science, spatial science/GIS, data science or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years' experience in agronomy research, precision agriculture, spatial data analysis or crop protection R&D.;
- Experience with field-based broadacre cropping trials, including establishment, data collection and reporting.
- Working knowledge of GIS platforms and spatial data formats such as shapefiles, rasters and prescription maps.
- Experience using data analysis tools such as Python or similar.
- Understanding of broadacre cropping systems, soil science and pre-emergent herbicide use.
- Strong data management, analytical and technical writing skills.
- A collaborative working style and confidence communicating with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Willingness to travel regionally and interstate during peak field seasons.
- Exposure to soil sensing technologies, drone imagery or variable rate application systems will be highly regarded.
