Position Overview
Location: Navarra Head Office Rozelle, Sydney
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Office-based)
Reporting to: Head of Finance
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to join the Navarra team at our Head Office in Rozelle. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, you will be responsible for the end-to-end processing of weekly payroll for approximately 70 permanent employees, together with 100-300 casual team members during peak operating periods.
This role is more than payroll processing. We are looking for a proactive skilled who can critically review our payroll systems, processes and workflows, identify opportunities for improvement,
and implement initiatives that enhance efficiency, accuracy, compliance and the overall employee experience.
You will play a key role in driving continuous improvement, including recommending and implementing enhancements within Employment Hero and other payroll systems.
Working closely with operational leaders and the HR team, you will ensure payroll deadlines are consistently met by following up managers on roster approvals, timesheet submissions and payroll queries. You will also partner with key stakeholders to ensure compliance with relevant Awards, employment legislation and company policies while providing expert payroll advice across the business.
To be successful in this role, you must have previous payroll experience within the hospitality industry, with a strong understanding of the Restaurant Industry Award and the complexities of managing large casual workforces. Must have experience using Employment Hero Payroll and a passion for process improvement are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Process accurate and timely weekly payroll for approximately 70 permanent employees and 100-300 casual employees during peak periods.
- Ensure all payroll activities are completed in accordance with relevant Awards, Fair Work legislation, taxation requirements and company policies.
- Follow up Venue Managers each week to ensure timesheets and rosters are completed and approved within required deadlines.
- Work collaboratively with Venue Managers to improve payroll accuracy,
roster compliance and timekeeping practices.
- Partner with the HR Manager to improve payroll systems, processes and workflows, ensuring a seamless employee experience.
- Identify opportunities to enhance and optimise Employment Hero, making recommendations to improve automation, reporting and system efficiency.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to streamline payroll operations and reduce manual processes.
- Partner with HR to identify and address non-compliance with business processes, including roster management, attendance and payroll procedures.
- Maintain accurate employee payroll records and respond to payroll-related enquiries in a professional and timely manner.
- Reconcile payroll reports and ensure the integrity and accuracy of payroll data.
- Assist with payroll audits, year-end reporting, Single Touch Payroll (STP) requirements and statutory reporting obligations.
- Prepare monthly payroll reporting, including leave liability, wages analysis, overtime, labour costs and other key workforce metrics.
- Partner with the Chief Financial Officer and HR Manager to provide payroll insights and reporting that support informed business decisions.
- Build strong working relationships across Finance, HR and Operations to ensure payroll supports the wider business objectives.
About You
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- Expert-level experience using Employment Hero
- A minimum of 5 years' experience working with Employment Hero payroll systems
- Strong payroll processing and systems improvement experience
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- The ability to work collaboratively with managers and stakeholders
- Must have valid work rights, visa sponsorship not available.
