Groves Christian College is seeking a dedicated, hands‑on Lead Groundsman to join our Facilities team. This full‑time role is responsible for leading the grounds team who maintain the presentation, safety, and functionality of our College’s grounds and outdoor spaces across two campuses.
Working under the leadership of the Head of Infrastructure, you will play an essential role in ensuring our learning environment remains clean, secure, visually appealing, and ready for daily College life. The position involves a variety of outdoor and physical tasks and requires someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys teamwork, and approaches each day with initiative and a servant‑hearted attitude.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the maintenance of lawns, gardens, landscaped areas, and outdoor spaces to a high standard of presentation.
- Perform mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, fertilising, weed/pest control, mulching, and green‑waste management.
- Assist with landscaping projects including planting, irrigation, drainage, paving, soil preparation, and general garden improvements.
- Maintain the grounds of the College with horticultural expertise and science.
- Respond promptly to grounds and maintenance requests, ensuring minimal disruption to College activities.
- Promote and uphold safe work practices in accordance with Workplace Health and Safety standards.
- Support a positive team culture and collaborate effectively with the broader Facilities teams.
About You
You will be someone who brings both practical ability and a warm, community‑minded disposition. You have:
- A genuine commitment to the Christ‑centred ethos of Groves Christian College.
- Experience in gardening, grounds maintenance,
landscaping, or general property upkeep (school environment experience desirable).
- Certificate or diploma qualifications in horticulture, parks and gardens or lawn management is desirable but not essential.
- A reliable, proactive work ethic and strong attention to detail.
- The physical capacity to perform manual labour in varying weather conditions, including lifting, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a cooperative team.
