Mechanical Design Engineer – Industrial Machinery

An established Brisbane engineering consultancy is seeking a hands‑on Mechanical Design Engineer to work across industrial machinery, materials handling and fabricated equipment.

This prospect will suit a mechanically minded engineer who enjoys solving practical problems from first principles, not someone focused primarily on project management, maintenance or producing CAD models without understanding the engineering behind them.

You will work across varied industries and technologies, designing real equipment that is manufactured, installed and put to work.

Working as part of an experienced engineering team, you will take design work from problem definition through to practical, buildable solutions.
Your work will include:

- Designing industrial machinery, materials-handling equipment and fabricated systems
- Developing 3D models and workshop-ready drawings using Autodesk Inventor
- Completing calculations to support and verify your designs
- Assessing structural loads and using FEA where appropriate
- Designing around motors, actuators, chains, sprockets, frames and mechanical movement
- Applying relevant Australian Standards and design codes
- Considering fabrication, installation, maintenance and safety throughout the design

You will ideally bring:

- A Mechanical Engineering qualification
- Direct design experience involving machinery, materials handling, mechanical equipment or fabricated systems




- Strong mechanical fundamentals and the ability to work through practical calculations
- Professional 3D CAD experience, preferably with Autodesk Inventor
- Experience producing detailed drawings for fabrication or manufacture
- Attention to detail and a willingness to check your own work
- A focused, self-managing work style
- A genuine interest in remaining technically hands‑on

This is a mechanical machinery‑design position. Applicants whose experience is primarily in building services, HVAC, maintenance, reliability, drafting, construction coordination or project management are unlikely to be suitable unless they can also demonstrate substantial hands‑on equipment design experience.
