Platform / Firmware & GPU Engineer – Mission Critical Build Programme
About our client
Our client is delivering a large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure transformation programme of national significance, focused on modernising core platforms within a highly secure and regulated environment.
A key component of this programme is a high-volume infrastructure build factory, responsible for preparing and commissioning thousands of servers across multiple secure data centres. This environment underpins critical national systems and requires precision, repeatability and strict adherence to security and performance standards.
The programme operates at industrial scale, with structured build waves, automated pipelines and clearly defined handover stages into downstream engineering and migration teams. Given the environment, every build must meet exacting requirements for security, performance and auditability.
About the role
You will operate within a factory-style deployment model, responsible for the physical and logical preparation of server infrastructure before it enters production.
This is a hands-on engineering role, working across hardware and low-level configuration to ensure each host is built, validated and handed over in line with strict programme standards.
Key responsibilities
- Perform secure data wipe and disk preparation, aligned to government-grade data sanitisation standards
- Configure BIOS/UEFI settings, including Secure Boot, TPM validation and system optimisation
- Execute firmware upgrades and driver baselining across servers to approved standards
- Install,
configure and validate GPU hardware (NVIDIA or equivalent) including device health checks
- Validate network interfaces, NIC configuration and hardware readiness prior to handover
- Maintain detailed build records, version baselines and configuration documentation for audit purposes
- Identify and escalate hardware faults, inconsistencies or configuration issues during build phases
- Work closely with downstream teams to ensure clean handover into Windows, security and infrastructure layers
This role is critical to ensuring infrastructure is built correctly first time, forming the foundation for all downstream delivery.
The successful candidate
You are a detail-oriented infrastructure engineer who is comfortable working in structured, high-throughput build environments and understands the importance of precision and repeatability.
- 4–6+ years experience in data centre builds, hardware engineering or infrastructure deployment
- Strong experience with server builds, BIOS/UEFI configuration and firmware updates
- Exposure to OS imaging and deployment processes (PXE, WDS or equivalent)
- Experience working within standardised build pipelines or large-scale infrastructure rollouts
- Exposure to GPU-enabled environments (NVIDIA desirable),
including installation and validation
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict build and compliance procedures
- Comfortable working in environments with audit, security and operational constraints
Mandatory requirement
- NV2 clearance preferred, OR NV1 with NV2 actively in progress (non-negotiable)
What is on offer
- $170,000 + super + performance bonus
- Opportunity to work within a large-scale, coordinated infrastructure build programme of national importance
- Be part of a high-performance, factory-style engineering environment delivering at scale
- Long-term engagement (initial 2-year programme with strong extension potential)
- Melbourne or Adelaide preferred, with flexibility for FIFO arrangements across Australia
- Work alongside specialist engineers across platform, infrastructure and security domains
- Direct contribution to platform readiness for mission-critical systems
Why this chance stands out
This is not a typical infrastructure role — it is part of a production-scale build operation, where engineering discipline, consistency and quality directly impact the success of a nationally significant programme.
You will be working on infrastructure that forms the foundation of critical systems, in an environment where precision matters, standards are high, and the work has real purpose.
If you’re looking to be part of something structured, high-impact and technically demanding — where your work directly contributes to a major transformation — this is a standout opportunity.
