An expanding energy trading business is growing its trading capability to support a portfolio of renewable generation, battery storage, and customer-facing energy products.
As a Trading Analyst / Spot Trader, you will support spot trading, portfolio optimisation, asset performance analysis, and the development of trading tools, systems, and processes across the National Electricity Market (NEM).
This is not a traditional execution-only trading role. The position will suit candidates who enjoy working with data, analytics, strategy, process improvement, and operational problem-solving in a fast-evolving trading environment.
You will work closely with trading, analytics, and leadership teams to support commercial outcomes across a dynamic and growing renewable energy portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Support spot trading activities across the NEM
- Monitor market conditions, pricing, constraints, and system events
- Support optimisation of renewable, battery, and customer portfolio positions
- Assist with integration and ramp-up of recent assets into the trading environment
Analytics & Tool Development
- Analyse market, portfolio, and asset performance data to support trading decisions
- Support analysis of battery and asset underperformance and optimisation opportunities
- Build and improve reporting, dashboards, analytical tools, and automation processes
- Work with Python, SQL,
and internal datasets to support trading and operational analysis
- Contribute to development of trading procedures, models, and decision-support frameworks
Systems & Process Improvement
- Utilise trading platforms, optimisation tools, and market systems
- Support implementation and enhancement of trading and analytical technologies
- Contribute to continuous improvement of trading tools, systems, and operational processes
- Operate within established risk frameworks, trading limits, and governance structures
- Ensure compliance with NEM rules and internal policies
Candidate Profile
Core Requirements
- Experience in energy markets, trading analytics, portfolio analytics, data analytics, or a related workplace
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
- Strong Python and/or SQL capability
- Experience working with data, reporting, automation, or analytical tools
- Interest in energy trading, portfolio optimisation, and operational decision-making
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced and evolving environment
- Exposure to wholesale electricity markets, renewable energy, batteries, or portfolio optimisation
- Familiarity with forecasting tools, optimisation platforms, or trading systems
