Salary: IN24-IN26: $62,540.40 - $65,754.00 per annum (pro rata) plus superannuation

Alfred Health and Monash Health have partnered to deliver pathology services across Western Health, including collection centres, branch laboratories at Sunshine Hospital and the New Footscray Hospital, and point-of-care testing services. This partnership ensures the continued delivery of high-quality pathology services to the growing communities served by both health networks.

Position Summary

The Pathology Collector is responsible for the secure, accurate, and timely collection of pathology specimens while delivering exceptional patient care.



Working with minimal supervision, the successful applicant will undertake a range of collection procedures, including:

- Adult, paediatric, and neonatal blood collections
- Oral Glucose Tolerance Tests (OGTT)
- Blood gas collections
- Electrocardiograms (ECGs)
- Inpatient, outpatient, and domiciliary collections

The role also involves accurate specimen identification, labelling, documentation, packaging, and data entry into laboratory information systems. Collections are performed across designated collection centres, hospital wards, and patients' homes throughout Western Health facilities.

About You

Essential Qualifications

- Certificate III or IV in Pathology Collection
- Current Working with Children Check (Employee)
- Current Australian Driver's Licence
- Basic First Aid qualification

Desirable Qualifications

- Current BLS certification
- Experience using iPM and Cerner PathNet Millennium systems

Skills and Experience

Grade 2 Phlebotomist (IN24)

Demonstrated ability to perform all routine pathology collection duties outlined in the Position Description.

Grade 3 Phlebotomist (IN26)

Advanced venepuncture skills, with demonstrated competence in at least two of the following areas:

- Infant skin puncture
- Therapeutic venesection
Paediatric venepuncture (ages 0-9 years)
- Domiciliary (home visit) collections
