About the Prospect

We're building an in-house engineering team from the ground up. Start-up energy, inside a high-growth, award-winning business.

You'll report directly to our Principal Engineer and work primarily on our in-house CRM application. Your job is to take well-scoped work and ship it cleanly, end to end, from database through API route to UI.

This is not a role where you'll wait to be told how to solve a problem. You'll be trusted with real work early, and the growth path into broader ownership is genuine, not a line we put in an ad.

Roughly 80 to 90% of your first six months is hands-on feature development and bug fixes. The rest is test coverage, tooling, and helping shape how this team works.

What You’ll Own

- Ship features end to end in our in-house CRM: database, API routes, React UI
- Write unit and E2E tests as standard practice, not as an afterthought
- Write real SQL against PostgreSQL. Joins, indexes, migrations, no ORM safety net
- Build components to the standard of the existing codebase
- Raise quality concerns in code review, not just receive them
- Flag blockers early and ask good questions
- Use AI coding tools actively to accelerate your output




- Grow into technical decision-making within your area of the codebase
- Build agentic automation. One of your first projects is a bug fix agent pipeline, so you'll be shipping AI that writes and ships the bug fixes

You are not:

- Just waiting to be told exactly what to do
- Someone who goes quiet for three days when they get stuck
- An engineer who treats tests as optional
- Sitting in a silo. You'll talk directly to the people across the business who use what you build, pull requirements from them yourself, and understand the problem before you write a line of code

GCP native, Australian data sovereign. Everything locked to australia-southeast1.

Language and framework:

TypeScript 5, Node 20, Next.js App Router, React 18, Tailwind

Data:

PostgreSQL 15 via raw SQL, hand-written migrations, custom data access layer, Zod validation

Testing:

Vitest for unit, Playwright for E2E

Infrastructure:

Docker to Cloud Run and Cloud SQL, GCS, Secret Manager, GitHub Actions

Observability:

Datadog RUM and logs

AI tooling:

Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT and Gemini used every day. AI-assisted code review sits alongside human review

Your Ticket to the Game

We're looking for someone 2 to 5 years into their career who is genuinely excited about building things. Specifically:

- The right mindset, above everything else.
- You work well in a fast-paced team and find that energising rather than draining
- You bring a positive attitude, are honest about what you don't know, and take feedback well
- You can work with requirements that aren't fully fleshed out, and you'll go and get the detail rather than stall




- Problem solving isn't just a skill for you, it's something you actually enjoy
- Finance industry background, or a very strong interest in finance. You've either worked in fintech, banking, wealth or similar, or you're the sort of person who reads about markets, tax and investing for fun. The domain is complex and we need someone who wants to learn it properly.
- You've built things and shipped them. Not coursework. Real projects, ideally with a repo or a demo you can point to.
- AI-curious with receipts. You've built something with AI or you're actively going deep on it. We don't need an expert, we need someone excited to push further.
- TypeScript and Next.js depth. Solid enough in the App Router and modern TypeScript to be productive quickly.
- PostgreSQL confidence. You can write real SQL and you understand what an index is doing.
- Testing discipline. You write tests. You know the difference between a unit test and an E2E test.
- Docker and CI/CD basics. You've worked in a pipeline. You don't need to be a DevOps expert.
- You communicate clearly. This is the number one thing we screen for. Ask good questions, flag blockers, explain what you built and why to someone non-technical.
