Winjan Aboriginal Corporation (ICN 822) has proudly served the Bindjareb community since 1989. For more than 35 years, Winjan has delivered culturally appropriate programs and services that strengthen community, protect culture and care for Bindjareb Noongar Boodja.

About the Role

The Winjan Ranger Program provides meaningful employment for Aboriginal people to care for Country while developing practical skills, qualifications and cultural knowledge.

Working across the State NRM Program and Aboriginal Ranger Program Round 9, Rangers undertake a wide range of environmental, cultural and land management activities while working closely with Elders, community members and partner organisations.

No two days are the same. Rangers spend much of their time outdoors on Country learning, working and contributing to projects that make a lasting difference.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Ranger Coordinator and Ranger Supervisor, you will:





- Care for Bindjareb Noongar Boodja through land and water management activities.
- Undertake on-Country work including weed management, feral animal control, fire management, revegetation, seed collection and environmental restoration.
- Assist with flora and fauna monitoring and environmental surveys.
- Help monitor and protect culturally significant places.
- Collect field data using digital technology including GPS, GIS and drone mapping.
- Participate in cultural learning opportunities with Elders and knowledge holders.
- Support cultural safety protocols across Winjan projects.
- Work respectfully with community members, volunteers, government agencies and project partners.
- Participate in accredited training, TAFE and professional development.
- Camp on Country when required for project delivery.
- Follow all workplace health and safety requirements, including Winjan's alcohol and drug-free workplace policy.
- Undertake other duties as directed by the Ranger Coordinator.

Essential Criteria

This is an Aboriginal identified position.

recognising Winjan's role in caring for Bindjareb Country.

Applicants should also demonstrate:

- A genuine passion for caring for Country, culture and community.
- Willingness to learn from Elders and participate in cultural activities.
- Ability to undertake physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Willingness to undertake activities such as weed control, environmental monitoring, fire management and cultural site protection.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work away from home and camp on Country when required.
- Commitment to maintaining a secure, respectful and drug and alcohol-free workplace.
- Willingness to obtain First Aid certification.

Qualifications & Licences

- Current C Class Driver's Licence (essential)
- National Police Clearance (or ability to obtain)
- Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain)

Employment Conditions

- Part-time (3 days per week)
- Two-year fixed-term contract
- Potential for extension subject to ongoing funding and organisational requirements
- Salary in accordance with the SCHADS Award, plus superannuation.
