Job Description
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Junior Network Engineer to join our IT Infrastructure team. This role is ideal for an early-career networking skilled who is passionate about technology, enjoys problem-solving, and has strong stakeholder engagement skills.
Key Responsibilities
Network Support & Operations
- Provide first and second-level support for network infrastructure, systems, and end-user connectivity issues.
- Monitor network performance and assist in maintaining network availability and reliability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network, hardware, and connectivity issues in a timely manner.
- Assist with network device configuration, upgrades, and maintenance activities.
- Support LAN, WAN, Wi‑Fi, VPN, and related network technologies.
System Provisioning & Administration
- Perform user account provisioning and deprovisioning across various systems and platforms.
- Configure and maintain access permissions in line with security and compliance requirements.
- Assist with onboarding new users and provisioning required hardware and software.
- Maintain accurate records of system configurations and user access.
Patching & Maintenance
- Support operating system and network device patching activities.
- Assist with scheduled maintenance and upgrade projects.
- Validate successful deployment of patches and system updates.
- Identify and elevate potential vulnerabilities or security risks.
Incident Management & Documentation
- Log, track, and update incidents, service requests, and changes through the ticketing system.
- Investigate root causes of recurring technical issues and recommend improvements.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, procedures,
and knowledge base articles.
- Ensure all activities are properly documented and comply with operational standards.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage with internal stakeholders to understand business needs and technical requirements.
- Communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain strong working relationships across the business.
- Collaborate with vendors and third‑party support providers when required.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to infrastructure improvement initiatives and technology projects.
- Identify opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and user experience.
- Stay current with emerging networking technologies and industry best practices.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness and ability to undertake occasional interstate travel, primarily to Perth, to support business and operational requirements.
- Valid Australian working rights and the ability to travel as required.
Qualifications
Required
- 1‑3 years of experience in a Network Support, Service Desk, IT Support, or Junior Network Engineering role.
- Fundamental understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, and routing/switching.
- Experience with ticketing and incident management systems.
- Knowledge of Windows environments and Active Directory administration.
- Experience supporting user provisioning and access management processes.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service and stakeholder management capabilities.
Desirable
- Exposure to Cisco, Fortinet, Aruba, Juniper, or similar networking technologies.
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and cloud platforms such as Azure.
- Understanding of ITIL processes and service management principles.
- Industry certifications such as CCNA, Network+, or equivalent.
- Experience with network monitoring tools.
