Job Description
SBRGROUP PTY LTD The General Accountant will be responsible for the preparation and analysis of financial information, statutory and management reporting, budgeting, taxation compliance, project cost reporting and the maintenance of appropriate accounting systems and internal controls.
The position will support the Directors and management team by providing reliable financial information and professional accounting advice relating to the company’s construction operations, property development projects, cash flow, financing arrangements and overall business performance.
Benefits A permanent, full-time position. Salary of $80,000–$85,000 per annum plus superannuation, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Task & responsibilities
The General Accountant will perform the following duties: Assist in developing and implementing the company’s budgetary and accounting policies.
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for presentation to Directors, management, external accountants, financiers and relevant statutory bodies. Analyse the company’s operating costs, income, expenditure, assets, liabilities and financial performance. Prepare management accounts, project financial reports and variance analyses.
Prepare annual budgets, cash flow forecasts and financial projections. Monitor and analyse construction project costs against approved budgets and cost-to-complete forecasts. Review committed project expenditure, subcontractor costs, variations, progress claims and project profitability.
Assess the cash flow and financial risks associated with construction and property development projects. Provide financial and taxation advice to management in relation to business operations, project structures, investments and financing arrangements. Prepare and review Business Activity Statements, GST, PAYG, payroll tax, Taxable Payments Annual Reports and other statutory reporting obligations.
Assist with the preparation of company income tax returns and supporting financial schedules. Maintain and review the general ledger to ensure financial transactions are accurately classified and recorded. Reconcile bank accounts, loan accounts, intercompany accounts, supplier accounts and balance-sheet accounts.
Review and oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes to maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial records. Maintain fixed-asset registers and prepare depreciation schedules. Establish, maintain and review internal accounting controls and financial reporting procedures.
Introduce, maintain and improve computer-based accounting systems and advise management on the effective use of accounting software. Prepare financial information required for construction finance, refinancing, loan drawdowns and funding applications. Assist with property development feasibility studies, financial due diligence and capital-investment assessments.
Liaise with external accountants, auditors, tax advisers, quantity surveyors, financial institutions, solicitors and government authorities. Investigate financial discrepancies and prepare reports and recommendations for management.
Ensure the accuracy of financial information and compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, taxation legislation and applicable statutory requirements.
Provide qualified financial analysis and advice to support management decision-making and long-term business planning.
Qualification & experience
Applicants must meet the following requirements: A Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or a closely related discipline. A minimum of three years of full-time, relevant post-qualification work experience as a General Accountant, Financial Accountant or in a closely related professional accounting role. Demonstrated experience preparing financial statements, management accounts, budgets, cash flow forecasts and financial reports. Sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Australian taxation and statutory reporting requirements.
Demonstrated experience with GST, BAS, PAYG, payroll tax, TPAR and company taxation matters. Experience maintaining general ledgers, balance-sheet reconciliations, accounting systems and internal financial controls. Experience using Xero or comparable accounting software.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Strong financial analysis, organisational and problem-solving abilities. A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills. The ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines in a commercially focused environment.
