Overview
The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Manager, Qualified Practice to provide expert leadership and advice within a prison, advancing evidence-based correctional practice and contributing to correctional excellence across Corrections Victoria. Lead and strengthen professional practice across Corrections Victoria. Join a collaborative prison leadership team committed to excellence and continuous improvement. Partner with prison stakeholders to build workforce capability, support staff development, and enhance practice. This is an ongoing, full-time chance to work within the Victorian Public Service (VPS). VPS Grade 5: $116,413 - $140,849 plus superannuation.

About the Role
The MPP role sits within the prison leadership group and contributes to the strategic direction and operational leadership of the facility. It includes leading the implementation of the Professional Practice Model and driving integration of best-practice approaches aligned with the Correctional Practice Framework (CPF). Through targeted professional development, reflective learning, and continuous practice improvement initiatives, the MPP strengthens correctional standards, supports staff wellbeing and decision making, and contributes to safe, consistent environments and improved outcomes for people in custody. The role provides specialist practice leadership across the prison,
strengthening the quality and effectiveness of correctional engagement and management of people in our care, through expert advice, coaching, and case consultation, while leading initiatives that embed contemporary correctional practice.
Key Duties
- Lead and develop professional practice capability, providing leadership, coaching, and performance oversight (direct and indirect) to strengthen custodial staff capability and embed evidence-based correctional practice.
- Provide expert practice advice and leadership, offering subject-matter expertise and influencing decision-making to support best-practice correctional approaches across the prison.
- Drive continuous improvement in correctional practice and lead/implement strategic initiatives that enhance quality, consistency, and effectiveness of service delivery.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated expertise in evidence-based practice with a strong understanding of trauma-informed, person-centred, and desistance-focused approaches to rehabilitation. You will have experience supporting complex and high-risk clients through evidence-based, person-centred practice, working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to achieve positive outcomes.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, criminology, human services, or related disciplines (desirable).
- Tertiary qualifications in training, assessment, teaching, or education (desirable).
- Formal training or certification in trauma-informed practice, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioural interventions, or other evidence-based correctional approaches (desirable).
- Certificate IV in Correctional Practice (CSC40120) (desirable).
