Join HDMB – Are you an experienced Carpenter ready to take the next step in your career while remaining hands‑on the tools and taking on greater leadership responsibilities?

HDMB is a residential building company specialising in architectural renovations, extensions and first‑floor additions throughout Sydney's Inner West and Eastern suburbs.

As our company continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced Lead Carpenter to become the principal carpenter on site. This is a predominantly hands‑on role, responsible for delivering high‑quality carpentry work while supervising and coordinating the day‑to‑day activities of the site team.

Working under the direction of the Project Manager, you will provide leadership, supervise a small team, monitor workmanship, ensure compliance with safety requirements, and help deliver projects safely, efficiently and to HDMB's high standards.

If you're passionate about quality workmanship, enjoy leading by example and want to be part of a company that genuinely values its people, we'd love to hear from you.

Why Join HDMB?

- Work on architectural renovations, extensions and first‑floor additions.
- Stable, long‑term employment with a growing and respected residential building company.
- Genuine career progression opportunities within a supportive business.
- Positive team culture that values quality, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Structured training, mentoring and leadership development.
- Weekly pay.
- Competitive remuneration based on experience and skills.

About the Role

As the Lead Carpenter, you will be the principal carpenter on site, leading by example through hands‑on carpentry while supervising the daily activities of carpenters, labourers and subcontractors.

Working under the direction of the Project Manager, you will assist with the coordination of daily work, maintain productivity, ensure quality workmanship, and promote a safe and organised work environment.

While the Project Manager retains overall responsibility for project delivery, programming and subcontractor coordination, you will play a key role in supervising the site's team and ensuring work is completed to HDMB's standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform high‑quality hands‑on carpentry across residential building projects.
- Lead, supervise and coordinate the daily activities of a small team that includes carpenters, labourers and subcontractors.
- Work closely with the Project Manager to achieve project milestones and maintain productivity.
- Read, interpret and construct works in accordance with architectural and structural plans.
- Plan and organise daily work activities for the carpentry team.
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard of quality.
- Monitor workmanship and identify defects before progressing works.
- Assist with site organisation, housekeeping and material management.
- Coordinate deliveries and advise when materials and consumables are required.
- Promote a positive safety culture and ensure compliance with WHS requirements.
- Identify and communicate site issues, risks or delays to the Project Manager.

- Lead by example in professionalism, teamwork and attention to detail.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

- Has exceptional carpentry skills and takes pride in delivering quality workmanship.
- Enjoys leading and supporting others while remaining hands‑on the tools.
- Has experience supervising or coordinating small site teams.
- Can effectively organise daily work and keep projects progressing.
- Has excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Can confidently read and interpret construction drawings.
- Is proactive, organised and solutions focused.
- Has a strong understanding of residential construction methods and materials.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Maintains a positive attitude and works well within a team-oriented team.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in residential construction.
- Experience working on architectural renovations, extensions or custom homes.
- Previous experience as Senior Carpenter.
- Current White Card.
- Current driver's licence and reliable transport.
- Own carpentry tools.
- Strong understanding of Australian Standards and NCC requirements.

What We Offer

- Competitive salary based on experience and capability.
- Long‑term employment with consistent work.
- Ongoing technical and leadership training.
- A supportive management team committed to your success.
- High‑quality projects you'll be proud to build.
- A company that genuinely values craftsmanship, safety and continuous improvement.
