Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) is seeking an experienced Occupational Hygienist to join our Safety & Environmental, Social & Governance team. Reporting to the Safety Manager, this permanent role will provide expert occupational hygiene advice, support and guidance to employees, contractors and port users, helping GPC meet its safety management and statutory obligations.
This is a hands‑on specialist role suited to a values‑driven professional who can lead occupational hygiene programs, interpret monitoring data, advise on controls and influence positive safety outcomes across a complex operational setting.
About the role
- Develop, implement and oversee GPC’s occupational hygiene program, including hygiene monitoring, risk profiling and records management.
- Identify, assess and evaluate occupational hygiene hazards, exposure data and control measures across chemical, physical and biological risk areas.
- Provide technical advice on occupational hygiene matters, including airborne contaminants, respirable crystalline silica, noise, vibration, heat stress, ventilation, containment, corrective actions and PPE requirements.
- Contribute to GPC’s ISO 45001 accredited safety management system through the development and review of policies, procedures,
management plans and improvement projects.
- Prepare occupational hygiene reports, identify trends and exceedances, and support workplace audits, investigations, training and coaching activities.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in occupational hygiene and at least five years’ experience as an occupational hygienist in a large, complex environment.
- Membership, or eligibility for full membership, with the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH).
- Strong working knowledge of occupational hygiene legislation, standards, monitoring methodologies and risk control practices.
- Proficiency in Chem‑Alert, a mandatory Class C driver licence, and a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) or the ability to obtain one.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, leadership and coaching skills, with a commitment to GPC’s values and Code of Conduct.
