The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager Planning & Regulatory Services, you will support and assist in the delivery of heavy vehicle compliance through random and targeted mass inspections. Operating across participating member Councils in the North-West region of New South Wales, this role serves as a key interface between the transport industry and Council, balancing active law enforcement with community education.

Your key responsibilities will include:

- Intercepting heavy vehicles on public roads and breaching offenders in accordance with the Heavy Vehicle National Law (NSW) and the Local Government Act 1993.
- Undertaking targeted patrols and inspections to monitor and manage heavy vehicle mass limits, preventing accelerated wear on critical road and bridge assets.
- Preparing and processing high-quality evidence and breach documentation to assist legal representation in court briefs, and attending Court as a witness when required.
- Maintaining detailed, accurate electronic records and weekly statistics of all trucks stopped, intercepted, weighed, and breached.

- Participating in and delivering structured education programs to increase community and transport industry awareness regarding heavy vehicle enforcement.
- Adhering strictly to approved work method statements, fatigue management requirements, and chain of responsibility obligations.
- Completing accurate reporting of operational data, including fuel usage, timesheets, and infringement notices.

About You

You are a confident communicator who can adapt your style to handle sensitive or challenging negotiations with a diverse range of stakeholders, from truck drivers to regulatory agency staff. You can work with minimal supervision while maintaining a strict commitment to corporate governance and safety.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

- Higher School Certificate or equivalent, and/or previous experience in compliance, law enforcement, local government, or a related field
- Competency in record keeping, statistical analysis, and the day-to-day operation of databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
- Total availability to work variable casual hours, including rostered relief periods, early starts, extended shifts of up to 10 hours, and occasional overnight stays away from home.

Required Tickets, Licences and/or Training:

- Current Class C Driver's Licence.
- Completion of, or a clear willingness to complete, the Weight of Loads induction program and the Traffic Controller Certificate.
- A Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services)
- Previous experience conducting enforcement or regulatory activities for a government organisation.
- Possession of a 'Prepare Work Zone Traffic Management Plans' certification.
- A structural understanding of the Heavy Vehicle National Law as it applies to mass management in NSW.
