Electrical PE / Electrical Designer – Hands-On Role

Are you an Electrical Skilled who wants to build, not just review? EngIT is seeking a hands-on Electrical PE / Electrical Designer for our client's engineering team. This is not a desk role reviewing drawings — we need someone out on site, designing, commissioning, and solving real problems. If you excel in EC&I;, PLC programming, cabling, and troubleshooting, we want to hear from you.

About the Role:
You'll own electrical and control system design end-to-end — from concept through to site delivery. Expect to split your time between the design environment and the field, working across mining, oil and gas, and brewing projects. This suits someone who thrives on variety, gets stuck in, and would rather be on site commissioning a panel than stuck behind a screen.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Development: Prepare, design, and inspect EC&I; equipment to a high standard of quality and compliance.

Control Systems: Develop and program PLCs and HMIs for control panels — relay-based panels, soft starters, LV/MV distribution boards, and VSDs.

Communication Protocols: Implement Ethernet/IP and Modbus/TCP for seamless system integration.

Site Work & Commissioning: Get out on site — conduct FATs and SATs, oversee installation, and see designs through to a working result.

Cabling & Routing:



Plan and execute site cabling routing, including underground installations.

Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve electrical and control issues on the ground, quickly and effectively.

Documentation: Produce drafts, ITPs, checklists, and FAT procedures to underpin quality assurance.

Leadership: Mentor and supervise junior engineers and drafters.

Compliance: Ensure designs meet hazardous area protection methods (Ex'e, Ex'd, Ex'i) and relevant standards.

Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum 5 years in electrical design, control systems, and instrumentation in relevant industries.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. PE licence preferred.

Certifications: PMI Certified Associate in Project Management a plus.

Technical Skills: PLC and HMI programming; strong EC&I; systems knowledge; microcontroller-based control systems.

Soft Skills: Excellent troubleshooting; calm under pressure; strong communication and leadership; detail-focused.
