About the Role
The Head of Health Services at St John NSW is a key leadership role responsible for the strategic development and operational management of the organisation’s Health Services across NSW. This role ensures seamless coordination between commercial and volunteer services, driving efficiency, quality, innovation, and alignment with organisational standards and community expectations.
With a strong commercial acumen, the Head of Health Services will actively engage with major clients to strengthen partnerships, negotiate contracts, and identify new business opportunities. They will lead the development and execution of strategies to expand service offerings, diversify revenue streams, and improve financial performance for sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day management and operational delivery of existing industry health service contracts, ensuring full compliance with contractual obligations and exceeding customer expectations.
- Lead the development and execution of comprehensive contract implementation plans aligned with project objectives, scope, budget, and timelines.
- Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities by conducting thorough market research, leveraging skilled networks, and providing prompt, well-prepared responses to Requests for Tender.
- Provide strategic and operational leadership supporting St John NSW Divisions delivering community and major events, ensuring compliance with agreed service standards and quality metrics are met.
- Establish, maintain, and communicate Standard Operating Procedures that align with organisational goals, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams and community health leaders to develop to implement a Community Health Strategy consistent with organisational values and strategic goals.
- Provide executive oversight of EHS Operations Team to ensure cohesive collaboration and effective delivery of event health services.
- Lead, motivate, and develop teams through ongoing performance management, feedback, and professional development.
- Apply clinical expertise to ensure clinical excellence, patient safety, and regulatory compliance across all event health services.
- Lead risk assessments and emergency response planning to maintain operational preparedness and resilience.
- Manage the portfolio operating budget, ensuring fiscal discipline and alignment with organisational objectives.
- Foster a safety-first culture to ensure St John NSW provides a safe workplace for all members and contractors.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven leadership experience in healthcare or events-related environments, managing extensive, complex operational teams across multiple sites or locations to ensure high standards of service delivery and compliance.
- Relevant qualifications and/or experience in business development and event management, with a demonstrated track record of successfully managing large-scale businesses and operations within the event health sector.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement new initiatives, revenue streams, and innovative business models that drive sustainable growth.
- Consistently achieved sales and business development KPIs by driving market expansion and delivering sustained sales growth.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with proven capability in relationship-building, collaboration, and delivering exceptional customer service that fosters long‑term business partnerships.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to engage clients, customers, and key external and internal stakeholders effectively.
- Proven ability to create professional proposals, tenders, and quotes with high‑level presentation and attention to detail.
- High level of computer literacy, including proficiency with digital platforms, customer relationship management (CRM) systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Unrestricted driver’s license and willingness to travel as required to support operational and business needs.
- Flexibility to work outside standard operating hours to meet the demands of the role.
