Senior Communications Advisor - 12 month fixed term contract

We are looking for a senior communication and media professional with experience and expertise in public relations, media relations, social media (content development and production) and website content and publishing.
This is an exciting role that will give you an opportunity to work with one of Australia's most influential member-based lobby groups and contribute to improving Australia’s health system for doctors and patients alike.
The role
Professionals with at least five years’ experience in communications or media relations, who thrive in fast-paced environments while juggling several projects, will find this position ideal. You will have the ability to quickly get across sometimes complex health-related policies developed by the organisation and work collaboratively with the AMA’s policy team.
You may also be required to act as 2IC to the Head of Communications.
The role involves working on high profile media relations projects, member communications and managing and overseeing the organisation’s social media channels, with oversight from the Head of Communications.
You will be a self-starter, who can take initiative, and who is willing to be hands on in all aspects of the team’s work.
This role is based in Barton.

What it takes
You enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, at times working under pressure to deliver multiple projects.
We are looking for someone:
who has outstanding writing skills
is a demonstrated self-starter with strategic thinking skills who has experience working on complex policy or technical issues
has experience in writing website content and using a content management system
has experience developing content for and managing digital channels including social media channels to facilitate engagement and communication with key stakeholders and the ability to develop and refine the organisation’s social media strategies
has experience writing video scripts, filming and editing videos would be highly regarded.
Has tertiary (bachelor and or masters) qualifications relevant to the role e.g. communications, media, journalism, public relations or equivalent relevant experience
ideally, has an understanding of federal politics, in particular the health portfolio.
Experience working with Canva or Adobe (or similar) to develop content and in email newsletter platforms e.g. Mailchimp will be highly regarded.
The successful candidate will be required to participate in a rotating "on call" roster and perform out of hours work that is shared by the team to cover unplanned media engagement activity.
Remuneration will be determined after an assessment of relevant skills, experience and qualifications.
