Established in 1924, Gailes is renowned for its traditional championship layout, outstanding playing surfaces and passionate membership. The Club has built a reputation as one of Brisbane’s premier golfing destinations, hosting more than 60,000 rounds annually while maintaining a strong and financially stable membership base.

The Club has recently completed significant investment into technology, clubhouse operations and member services and is now embarking on an exciting long-term golf course improvement strategy that will shape the future of Gailes Golf Club for decades to come.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, this is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious Course Superintendent to lead an experienced Course Maintenance Team and become an integral member of the Club’s senior leadership group.

About the Course

Gailes Golf Club is recognised as one of Queensland’s premier traditional parkland golf courses.

The Club has recently commenced a staged Golf Course Masterplan developed in conjunction with renowned Golf Course Architect David Burrup. The first phase includes a major bunker redevelopment project incorporating modern CapillaryFlow bunker construction and EcoBunker edging systems, with further strategic course improvements planned over the coming years.

This is much more than a maintenance role, it is an opportunity to help deliver one of Brisbane’s most exciting golf course improvement programs while maintaining exceptional playing conditions for our Members and guests.

The successful applicant will enjoy the support of a progressive Board of Directors and Management Team who understand the importance of continual investment in golf course presentation, infrastructure and equipment.

The Role





The Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall management, presentation and continual improvement of the golf course and associated grounds.

Working closely with the General Manager, the successful applicant will lead a dedicated maintenance team and oversee all aspects of golf course operations including:

- Leadership and management of the Course Maintenance Team.
- Delivery of exceptional golf course presentation and playing conditions.
- Planning and implementation of agronomic programs.
- Irrigation system management and water resource planning.
- Budget preparation and financial management.
- Machinery, workshop and equipment management.
- Staff training, development and workplace health and safety.
- Project management of golf course construction and improvement works.
- Environmental sustainability initiatives.
- Implementation of the Club’s long-term Golf Course Masterplan.

About You

The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic leader with a genuine passion for golf course management and continual improvement.

Essential Requirements

- Certificate IV, Diploma or higher qualification in Sports Turf Management (or equivalent).
- Demonstrated leadership experience within a golf course maintenance environment.
- Strong warm-season turf management knowledge.
- Experience managing irrigation systems.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Strong financial and budget management abilities.
- Current Australian Driver Licence.
- Commitment to workplace health and safety.

Highly Desirable





- Previous experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
- Experience delivering golf course construction or renovation projects.
- Knowledge of CapillaryFlow or similar modern bunker construction methods.
- Chemical accreditation.
- Experience operating earthmoving equipment.Understanding of golf course architecture and design principles.
