Principal Power Systems Engineer – Sydney
DIgSILENT Pacific is seeking a Principal Power Systems Engineer to join our Sydney Engineering Team.
This is a full-time role based in our Sydney CBD office, with flexible and hybrid work arrangements available. The role would suit a technically strong engineer with at least 7 years’ industry experience and a strong interest in power system modelling, grid integration, dynamic studies and energy market development.

About the role
You will lead and contribute to technically challenging projects across the transmission, distribution and generation sectors. The role will involve power system studies, grid connection work, model development and validation, regulatory compliance assessments, and technical advisory services for utilities, developers and other industry participants.
The role is primarily office-based, with occasional fieldwork and travel as required.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Lead power system studies, including RMS and EMT analysis
- Undertake regulatory connection studies, including R0/R1 studies, due diligence and GPS compliance assessments
- Develop, validate and assess dynamic models using PowerFactory, PSCAD and PSS®E
- Provide technical advice to clients, utilities, developers and other stakeholders
- Perform dynamic stability simulations and hold point test assessments
- Support automation, scripting and data integration activities
- Contribute to planning and advisory work across distribution and transmission networks
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across DIgSILENT Pacific’s Australian offices and the wider DIgSILENT Group
About you
You will ideally have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
- A Master’s degree or further postgraduate study, desirable but not essential
- 7+ years of relevant industry experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong expertise in DIgSILENT PowerFactory
- EMT experience
- Experience with PSS®E
- Python skills for automation, modelling workflows and data analysis
- A strong understanding of NEM regulations and grid connection requirements
- Experience managing or contributing to new connection applications, including work with AEMO and NSPs
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively across remote teams
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally when required
