We are looking for a passionate and experienced Workplace Health & Safety Advisor to join a close-knit team in Cairns and help strengthen a positive, practical safety culture across the organisation.
About the role
The Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Advisor is responsible for providing trusted advice, coaching and hands-on support to workers and leaders on all safety matters. This role will suit someone who is passionate about safety, confident working with people at all levels, and able to translate legislative and system requirements into practical day-to-day solutions.
A key focus of the position will be reviewing, maintaining and improving our safety management system, including policies, procedures, reporting, registers and compliance processes. The successful candidate will be highly capable with systems and data, proactive in identifying improvements, and comfortable supporting managers to embed safe work practices. The role also includes responsibility for Workers’ Compensation (WorkCover) obligations, including injury management, return-to-work programs and claims administration.
What you’ll need to be considered
- Tertiary qualifications, or a minimum of 5 years experience, in Work Health and Safety or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated knowledge of WHS legislation, risk management principles, and incident investigation.
- Proven experience managing workers’ compensation and return-to-work programs.
- Strong time management skills – ability to effectively manage large projects while completing business as usual tasks.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- High-level analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a National Police Check during the course of employment.
- Ability to obtain working with vulnerable persons clearance if required.
- Ability to travel to remote locations on occasion may be required.
- Certificate IV in Personal Injury Management or Return to Work Coordination.
