Technician - Hygiene

We are looking for a passionate and talented Hygiene Technician to join our HSE team at Rio Tinto Yarwun Refinery based in Gladstone, working Monday to Friday or you have the option to do a 9‑day fortnight.

Responsibilities

- Conduct Occupational Hygiene Surveys to identify and confirm exposure risks and prepare associated reports
- Perform routine and targeted monitoring
- Educate, communicate and engage with Rio Tinto HSE groups, site leaders and operational personnel
- Ensure occupational hygiene documentation is current and accurate
- Support the administration of programs such as ChemAlert or Cority
- Manage site equipment and monitors

What You Will Bring

- Genuine interest in understanding and improving workers’ health
- Scientific educational background
- Understanding of legislative requirements relating to health surveillance and occupational hygiene
- Sound understanding of MS Office
- Completion of the Basic Principle of Occupational Hygiene – desirable
- Membership of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH) – desirable

Yarwun Refinery – located in Central Queensland, approximately 10km north‑west of Gladstone, Yarwun alumina refinery commenced operations in 2004. With a focus on safety, the team at Yarwun challenges themselves to use existing and emerging technology to support our 24‑hour operation.
