Are you passionate about helping children and families thrive? Barnardos Australia is seeking a dedicated OOHC Caseworker to join our Temporary Family Care Team in Wyong, 2259. This is a full-time 12-month contract prospect to be part of a values-led organisation committed to making a real difference in the lives of children and families.

About the Role

- Build relationships and connections with children, young people, parents, extended family, carers network, and communities that are strengths based, support capacity building and transparent and advocating for the voice and rights of the child.
- Work with the child’s network to ensure that the child’s holistic wellbeing needs are met, their rights are upheld, their identity and connections are strong and that they experience the same life opportunities as their peers.
- Prevent, notice and respond to the child of abuse, neglect, discrimination and isolation within their care and community environments recognising that they are more likely to be targeted and exploited – including assessment of risk and safety planning.
- Identify and collaborate with the child’s cultural network and community to support their cultural connection and identity and develop and implement Cultural Care Plans.
- Develop, implement and review plans for each child in care. Ensuring plans reflect the principles of permanency planning, Aboriginal placement principles and participation, along with relevant policies, procedures, and legislation.
- Plan, supervise and coach parents and others in family time, and other interactions, to build child-focused caregiving skills and capacity.

You’ll join a collaborative and supportive team delivering high-quality, trauma-informed services that uphold child safety, cultural safety, and family-led practice.

Skills and Experience :





- Tertiary degree level qualification in a Human Services or related field or relevant experience in the sector demonstrating relevant knowledge and skills for the role.
- Knowledge of child development and childhood developmental trauma.
- Knowledge of human and child rights, and the lasting harm of colonisation on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Knowledge of parenting and carer support and capacity building.
- Knowledge of the current NSW legislation and requirements regarding the care and protection of children, young people and, working with authorised carers.
- Demonstrated experience providing culturally responsive support to children, young people, community, families and kin.

- Base salary: $80,015- $92,295 per annum pro rata + 12% superannuation
- Salary packaging: Up to $15,860 tax-free (general living expenses)
