About the role

Carers ACT is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Policy and Development Officer, a current role, to join their dynamic team on a part-time basis (0.5 FTE / 20 hours per week). This role will contributeto maintainingCarer ACT’s role as the leading voice for unpaid carers in the ACT by playing a pivotal role in developing policy, advocating for carers and securing grants and support.

In this role, you will work closely with the policy and advocacy team as well as the executive team and external stakeholders to identify funding opportunities, develop compelling grant proposals, and form strategic partnerships.

Your duties will include:

- Gathering evidence from internal and external sources to inform policy positions that have been informed by the voice of carers
- Drafting policy positions or providing input and feedback on policy positions that is evidence based and in line with our vision,purposeand values




- Identifying potential funding sources and grant opportunities aligned with Carers ACT priorities.
- Preparing high-quality grant proposals, including budgets and supporting documentation.
- Maintaining relationships with stakeholders to support grant applications and cultivate ongoing support.
- Collaborating with internal teams to gather information and data necessary for grant applications.

About You:

- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (eg. Public policy, Development) highly desirable.
- Proven experience in policy analysis, development, or advocacy.
- Demonstrated success in securing grants and writing compelling proposals, preferably within the nonprofit or government sectors.
- Strong research, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-orientated with strong organisational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite software.
- WWVP with NDIS Check (or willing to obtain)
- Driver’s licence
- Experience working in a not-for-profit environment
- Experience creating a recent role including developing and implementing new procedures and templates
- Experience building philanthropic relationships with external partners
