Junior Engineer – Technical Sales & Projects
Start your engineering career by actually doing engineering.
Looking for an engineering role where you can take ownership, work directly with customers and see your projects go from an initial enquiry to something being built on the workshop floor?
Industrial Plastics is looking for a Junior Engineer – Technical Sales & Projects to join our growing team in Hemmant.
This is an ideal opportunity for a recent engineering graduate, final-year engineering student, or early-career engineer who is technically minded, commercially switched on and confident communicating with people.
You won’t spend your first year sitting on the sidelines.
You’ll take ownership of smaller projects and customer enquiries, working with our experienced engineering, sales and production teams to develop solutions, prepare quotes, coordinate jobs and help deliver projects from enquiry through to completion.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll gradually build your own portfolio of projects and customers, with support from experienced team members around you.
Your role will include:
- Managing smaller engineering projects and customer enquiries from start to finish
- Speaking directly with customers to understand their requirements
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and technical information
- Developing practical engineered solutions with support from our team
- Preparing quotations, estimates and proposals
- Following up opportunities and building customer relationships
- Coordinating with engineering and production to get projects into manufacture
- Tracking your projects through the workshop and helping resolve issues along the way
- Learning our materials, manufacturing processes and product capabilities
- Taking increasing ownership of a product line or project category as your experience grows
One day you might be helping quote a fabricated component; the next, working through a customer’s requirements with production and seeing the finished project being built metres away from your desk.
Who we’re looking for
You might be:
- A recent Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Manufacturing or related Engineering graduate
- In the later stages of your engineering degree and looking for serious industry experience
- An early-career engineer looking for more responsibility and customer exposure
- Must be located in Brisbane with full Australian Working Rights
More importantly, you are:
- Proactive – you don’t wait to be told every next step
- Organised – you can keep enquiries and projects moving
- Commercially minded – you understand that outstanding engineering also needs to work for the customer and the business
- A strong communicator – comfortable speaking with customers, suppliers and workshop teams
- Curious – you want to understand how things are designed, quoted, manufactured and delivered
- Ready to take ownership – you like having something that is yours to drive
You don’t need to know everything on day one. We’re looking for someone with the right attitude, initiative and engineering foundation who wants to learn quickly.
Why Industrial Plastics?
We’re a Brisbane-based engineering and manufacturing company specialising in engineered thermoplastic solutions for industries including mining, water treatment, chemical processing, infrastructure and industrial manufacturing.
Our team designs and manufactures real engineered products in-house – meaning you can walk from your desk onto the workshop floor and see your projects being made.
For an early-career engineer, that means exposure that can be difficult to get in a large graduate program:
- Real project ownership early in your career
- Direct exposure to customers and commercial decision-making
- Hands-on understanding of manufacturing and fabrication
- Mentoring from experienced engineers and industry professionals
- Exposure across engineering, estimating, sales, production and project delivery
- The opportunity to develop your own area of responsibility as you grow
- A supportive, ambitious and growing Australian manufacturing business
This isn’t a role where you’ll spend years waiting for responsibility.
If you’re capable, proactive and willing to learn, we’ll give you room to take ownership and grow with us.
