Many tertiary and hospital paediatricians would welcome some private work – but hesitate, because private practice can mean trading away the things they value most: governance, collegiality, subspecialty depth, and evidence-based care. Nest is built to be the exception.

We're a focused, specialist-led practice – two consultant neonatologists, a neonatal nurse practitioner and a paediatric nurse – now establishing Nest Children's, our paediatric service extending Nest's care from newborns into infancy and childhood. You'd join a small founding team of paediatricians as we launch, in a service that is deliberately governed, evidence-based and collegial: the kind of workplace a tertiary clinician recognises, in a private setting.

This is an ideal supplementary role for a paediatrician who wants meaningful private work without leaving behind the standards and culture of good hospital medicine – practising excellent, unhurried, whole-child paediatrics within a values-driven team, and helping shape a service at an early and formative stage.

What makes Nest different

Focused, not generalist. Nest does two things – newborn care and children's paediatric and developmental care – and does them with genuine depth, rather than a little of everything.

Hospital-level expertise, in private. Our clinicians trained where the complex cases go, and we've built Nest to bring that standard into private practice, without losing its humanity.

Care that looks at the whole picture. We don't manage symptoms in isolation – sleep, nutrition, development, behaviour and family are all part of how we think, with the time and continuity to do it properly.

Genuinely collegial and well-governed. A small, senior team,



real clinical governance, shared standards and mutual support – not solo practice in parallel rooms.

Family-owned and values-driven. Independent and clinician-led, with decisions made by the people doing the work – including the decision to build a service worth practising in.

The paediatric work

Nest Children's is built around genuine developmental and behavioural strength alongside general paediatrics. You'd practise:

Real developmental expertise – assessment and care across development and behaviour, including ASD and ADHD, the way it's done in a dedicated developmental service, with the time families rarely get.

Whole-child care – screening and supporting sleep, nutrition, activity and family life alongside thoughtful medical management, with medication used deliberately rather than by default.

General paediatrics – the everyday breadth of childhood health, with continuity from newborn follow-up through childhood.

You'd also provide some structured newborn follow-up appointments, and take part in a supported on-call roster and elective caesarean cover for the newborn service. There is no inpatient general paediatric care, and all neonatal inpatients are handed over to the neonatology team.

About you

FRACP (General Paediatrics), or nearing completion, with AHPRA specialist registration or eligibility.





Drawn to holistic, relationship-based care – understanding the whole child and family, not managing presentations in isolation.

An interest in developmental and behavioural paediatrics, general paediatrics, or both.

A warm, collegial, family-centred clinical style, and a wish to practise within a governed, evidence-based team.

Likely holding a primary role elsewhere, and looking for private work that shares the standards you already value.

The practicalities

Part-time and flexible – 0.2–0.4 FTE, designed to complement an existing role, with protected clinic time and built-in leave cover.

Supplementary private income – est. $100–200k+ p.a., scaling as your caseload grows. We're glad to walk through our financial modelling in detail.

Purpose-built rooms at RDX Lumina, in the Gold Coast Health & Knowledge Precinct – alongside major hospitals, universities and research institutes.

Academic and research links with Bond and Griffith Universities, if of interest.

Protected on-call and inpatient load – on-call is light and supported by a second-on neonatologist. All babies are handed to the neonatology team for ongoing care, and there's no inpatient general paediatrics. We provide newborn care at Mater Mothers' Private Gold Coast and Pindara Private – with cover structured so your commitment stays predictable and contained.
